Or will this actually do something for a change and bring some sort of normality back to the classroom?

//Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi unveiled the directive to stop school teachers 'promoting contested theories as fact'.//

Does that include religion in religious schools? Stories of Jesus? Am not even sure some of the detail's tought about Battle of Hastings are facts
Not before time.IMO.
The march to Fascism continues. . . . . .
... yes, some would say thats what there trying to stop... some would say the left and PCism is just another form of fascism
I think if it promotes balanced discussion fine, I wonder if teachers would stick to it. I can remember being ridiculed a teacher for my views as a sixth former back in the 1970s and as far as I can tell from friends kids it hasn't got any better.
Keep politics out of schools by having a politician dictate what can and can’t be taught.

The National curriculum should not be draw up by any political party.
I hope it isn't hot air. Teachers have no business teaching their own political agenda.
To summarise; when the children are young pupils, teachers should tell them what a swell guy 'X' was and how he helped shape the nation. Then, when the pupils are a tad older, they can be told that the 'swell' guy they learned so much about in their younger years, actually ate new born babes each day for brekky:-J
Can anyone on here really attribute their political leanings to any of their teachers?
That's because everyone on here is too old, Ken.

It may not have been the case but it is happening today.
most teachers are anti British lefties, they churn out anti British lefty kids, the kids love socialism until they get assets and become Tories, the end. That's why Labour want to give the vote to 5 year olds it's their only chance.

If the teachers are indoctrinating students into socialism, how do you account for an 80 seat Conservative majority ?
"Most teachers are anti British lefties..." If you say so, TTT, if you say so.

By the way, here's BoJo vying for the 5 year old's votes;

I have 9 grandkids (youngest is still at nursery) and i can honestly say i do not see any anti British lefty tendencies in any of them. Their teachers must have been doing something wrong, eh?

It's not all teachers Ken, far from it. REally this is just about reigning in the extremists. And its not just about the left, would you want your kid taught just the good things Hitler did (and he did do some very good things for his people) without the other side?

//Does that include religion in religious schools? //
IMHO religion should only be taught in schools as a study of religions. More on what they are and backgrounds etc. No child should be forced to any particular belief so yes I would hope it includes them.
I doubt very much it includes religion. Faith schools will continue with that as usual.
I hope they can't just say the Holocaust was a bad thing, they must be ordered to quote David Irving's views in order to be balanced and impartial.

Good job you are not a teacher jno, clearly no common sense from that statement.

Still as you hate the UK so much maybe just go to your country of choice that is so much better. Just out of interest, where do you think is so much better than this one you live in and constantly run down whist telling us you are not British?
dodging the question yet again, ymb?

Do you think schools should only teach that the Holocaust was a bad thing? If so, it has to be exempted from an requirement to be impartial.

What other topics will this be true of? (Slavery? Brexit? Misogyny?)

Who decides which ones? Michael Gove? You?
Jno, the Holocaust was a bad thing. Only a lunatic would consider it a good thing.
