If the British voters made the other decision ... nothing much would have happened. The point is Ukraine actually wants to join the EU and why shouldn't it. We need a PM who has some standing on the world stage and has some credibility not the national embarrassment that Boris is. Zelensky has real courage and integrity, Boris has neither
^^ /The point is Ukraine actually wants to join the EU/
That has nothing at all to do with what Boris has said, isn't about what it wants to join, it's about what it wants to free itself from.
I'd have thought that a better comparison would've been with the British peope during World War II, but I guess Boris isn't known for engaging his brain before opening his trap.
It is always an eye opener how the permanantly "offended" can always find a little bit extra to be offended on behalf of someone else. However little the "victims" require a surrogate resenful substitute.
Some people on this thread are making political capital out of what they think (and hoped) Johnson said, rather than what he actually said. If they don’t ‘get it’ they’re wilfully not getting it to form their own narrative.

The reporting by The Guardian is typically poor - although that really doesn’t surprise me.
17.57, So you reckon Boris didn't say it then deskdiary, and you think he's not capable of saying it.
He has certainly radicalised you .
What planet are you living on?

davebro,
//Gromit - The only freaky thing here is YOU! //

Why do you bother posting on a debating forum, when you are unable to debate, and just post abuse ?

Please try and up your game, you are failing miserably.
Let's remind ourselves of the Brexit votes results:

Leave: 51.9%
Remain: 48.1%
Turnout: 72%

Perhaps somebody could explain how this is analogous to the Ukrainians fighting for their lives and their freedom. Please tell me the Ukrainians that are "leave", "remain" and "did not vote".
Note that my more direct thoughts were deleted by an exuberant moderator ...
No answers yet, Ellipsis but I'm sure somebody will come along to try to explain...when they've thought how to.
Boris Johnson has morals, he just doesn't always apply them to his actions.

Compare and contrast with Puti who has lost sight of morality altogether.
^ I totally agree, give me Boris over that freak Putin any day !
EU vote referendum. Electorate 46,500,000 voters

17,410,742 voted to leave.

Is that a plucky win over an autocrat dictator.
Or Boris BS?
//Compare and contrast with Puti who has lost sight of morality altogether.//

The choice between the clown or the murderer is no choice at all. The two aren't comparable.
> Boris Johnson has morals, he just doesn't always apply them

He does, he has no choice. In his position, morals are always in play ... he can't choose not to apply them, it's not his choice to make. If he's not applying one set of morals ("his"), he's applying another (whose?). By definition, the morals he's applying are his morals. He's the leader!
> Compare and contrast with [Putin]who has lost sight of morality altogether.

That's not the OP though, is it? The OP is about Boris finding an analogous comparison between the Ukrainians' position and Brexit ... which was just fatuous.
If the British voters made the other decision ... nothing much would have happened.

If the Ukrainian people make the wrong decision ... they will die, their families will die, their children will die. They will die in the most horrific way.

To try to score Brexity points by making any comparison between the decisions facing these two groups of people is a national embarrassment. It tells the world that the British people (who have chosen to have this person in charge) are utterly lacking in tact, dignity, compassion, and diplomatic awareness.

And it is no good to say "oh, this is all he meant, it's all been taken out of context". The world does not read his mind. The world only hears his words.

We should be deeply ashamed.
The British people voted for change. The Ukrainians didn't want change. They are not like us.

See what I did there? You can twist any position to suit your means, if you find the right angle. When you do it for political gain, as Boris did, and especially when people are dying for you to make your faulty analogy ... chooses his words carefully to avoid another deletion ... it's odorous.
Nice one joggerjayne
