The stamp duty holiday encouraged people to move and now there is hardly any property on the market as it's all been sold.
We're not 'all skint', especially those parasites buying every available house or flat to rent out to the desperate at grossly inflated prices.

I always smile when i hear the average price of a house. Today's average is £265,000. The dearest house in Burnley is only worth half a mil and, as @ Jan of this year, our average was just over £144,000.

well as they say ken, only 3 things matter in house prices, location, location and location.
Just looked at the "average" house price around here...semi £470k and detached £630k.
Thinking of moving to Burnley.....!

The reason the price of anything rises is supply and demand. Houses are no exception: there are too many people chasing too few houses. And it will get worse. And worse.
There must be a ceiling when first time when eventually buyers are unable to get on the ladder
