Rich man's wife optimises tax, while rich husband taxes poor. Not news at all.
Dont know.
For some reason people seem to think that people should pay more tax than they are legally obliged to.
Honestly, if they have a problem raise it with their MP and get the HMRC laws changed, same for Amazon et al. Get the law changed not blame the person/body.

// while rich husband taxes poor.//

Oh he hasnt taxed the rich then?
This has been covered comprehensibly on a previous post.

It's about the optics as they say these days.

Clarity is next to godliness. Best sort it out for an adoring public now rather than be hounded should an oversight come to light at an awkward moment.

Of course the reason its in the news is because of jealousy TTT.

As far as I can see in this case she pays uk tax on UK income but not on income earned abroad, presumably India. I assume in that case she is liable for India HMRC to get off her?

The problem there Danny is that many of us dont go in or stay in a Gulliver thread as it always descends into chaos.

I don't know why people find it offensive that people do what they can to avoid tax. How many of the moaners have avoided tax if they could have? Let he who is without sin ....etc
Not really paid much attention to this but, if you are working within the law, then there is nothing to answer too.
Most people that are in business use an account for one reason only, to show them within the law how they can avoid paying tax. That's it!!
Avoid paying more tax than need be I should have said. ^^^

danny: 14:50,gulliver's threads are not a discussion he never even tells us what he's talking about. He has only 3 subjects, brexit, Boris and the Tories and has never in his history put together a cogent sentence on either. His posts are largely grenades.
It's news because Mrs Sunak is claiming 'non-domicile tax status to avoid tax on foreign earnings, which is perfectly legal.

However, to claim non-dom status, you have to have your main residence outside the UK, and have no demonstrable links in terms of home and family here.

It appears that Mrs Sunak may not be adhering to that aspect of the agreement, and that's why it is news.
The wife of the Chancellor is a tax avoider.

It is rather unusual.
Just in case early bedders miss this:

And the link that Douglas has posted is merely a precis of the Readers' Digest version of the entire situation.
// 10 Downing Street has dismissed reports that it is behind a series of politically damaging leaks against the chancellor //

An official denial - it must be true.
This Government gets more dysfunctional by the day.
// 10 Downing Street has dismissed reports that it is behind a series of politically damaging leaks against the chancellor //

By denying that they are doing it, they have confirmed that someone is leaking embarrassing stuff on Sunak.
Sunak is frontrunner to replace Johnson. The fact that someone is trying to discredit him now means that they think Johnson’s position is not secure, and they are now jockeying to be ready to take over.
Although perfectly legal, it does appear odd that folk can live in the UK for years yet be classed as a non-dom for tax purposes because (amongst other conditions) they intend to return to their father's home country.
Saving £20million in tax apparently.

We’re all in this together.
