A few months ago he was giving millions away in £50 vouchers to have your bike fixed so you could become fighting fit, and avoid obesity.

Now he does a U turn on junk food. What a joker! Eat plenty of chocs, sweets, salty snacks, any rubbish you like., and protect the NHS?

Haven't you had this answered previously today?

^^ Yep, he seems to have forgotten that obesity is costing the NHS billions, while the junk food manufactures make billions and kill millions.

Before the pandemic it was, and still is the biggest health problem the NHS are fighting.
Question Author
This is about that complete waste of money danny. Plus.
Banning adverts and 'bogofs' won't make a scrap of difference. Remember the mothers pushing bags of chips through the school railings when the schools tried feeding their children healthy meals?

In fairness, Boris hasn't told us to eat plenty of chocolates or anything else - maybe he should, because those parents seem to do the opposite of government and NHS advice regarding healthy eating and exercise.

It does make a difference barry especially to young kids watching TV adds.
//...especially to young kids watching TV adds.//

The people to control what young kids eat are their parents, not the government. To buy unsuitable food young kids need cash. Unless they steal it where does it come from? Answers on a postcard, please.

The government has no business telling retailers what price they must sell their goods at and, as above, it will make not the slightest difference anyway.
How would you get the fat cat retailers to stop bogof deals on junk food? If the demand is there the retailers don't care about consumer health.
You would fine them heavily if they did so, tigger, but it would only apply to medium and large shops so the likes of Spar shops would be exempt.

I have read many complaints about the new legal requirement for certain outlets to display calories on their menus - people are determined to ignore it. Wetherspoons has been doing this for years.

Its not always down to price NJ, but the content.
tiggerblue10. ( Consumer health) I thought that's why we have a health minister to over see?
//Its not always down to price NJ, but the content.//

Whatever it's down to, it's for parents to supervise what their children eat.

//tiggerblue10. ( Consumer health) I thought that's why we have a health minister to over see?//

We have a health minister to oversee the NHS. There are too many campaigns urging people to eat this, don't eat that, drink this, don't drink that. People need to be left alone, they don't need to be nannied from cradle to grave.

I'm off out for a nice meal tonight. I might have grilled fish, I might have a fillet steak. I don't know yet. What I do know is that I don't want anybody in government "advising" me what and how much I should eat and drink. I certainly don't want them controlling the price that retailers charge for their goods simply to "encourage" my eating habits to align with their perceived best practice. They could make fruit and vegetables free of charge but if people want to eat Greggs' sausage rolls every day they will.
First of all the idea is to help people cope with the rising cost of living - but you know that - and secondly if people are fat from eating the wrong things it’s their own fault. No one should need to be led by the nose by the government which is what you’re suggesting. There’s plenty of advice on healthy eating in the public domain and there is no excuse - except it seems Boris isn’t controlling what you’re putting in your mouth. Pathetic!
Many food manufacturers have been reducing the salt/fat/sugar content in food for some time - and people have been complaining about the change of flavours. Many foods that could have been kept in the cupboard after opening now have to be kept in the fridge because of the reduced amount of natural preservatives as a result.

Question Author
NJ. Its pretty obvious that the parents are not supervising or there wouldn't be so many young kids having obesity problems.

Health minister over seeing NHS. Yes correct, past and present have stated many times that the NHS are spending billions on trying to treat and educate people on the problems of obesity.

No one was trying to tell you what to eat tonight, I would think you already know whats good and not so good, but sadly there are many people / parents who don't know whats good and not so good.

Regarding cradle to the grave, some kids are looking at an early grave due too their uneducated up bringing.
Question Author
Its not the flavours that have changed barry. Its just that the contents have been flooded with salt, fat and sugar for to long to mask the crap contents.
// People need to be left alone, they don't need to be nannied from cradle to grave. //

the scottish government tried nannying their electorate -

would anyone like to guess whether this measure actually achieved its objective?
Question Author
First off don't call me pathetic. Boris is not out to control what goes in your mouth.
He is trying to get people to eat a healthy meal.
“…there are many people/parents who
don’t know what’s good and not so good”

Nope - I don’t buy that.

Even the most knuckle dragging chav would know that Turkey Twizzlers are not as good as a grilled turkey steak.

I accept there’s a cost factor, but there’s also a laziness factor - it’s easier to slam chicken nuggets and chips in the oven for their kids than it is to cook a meal.
At one time, poor people were thin, skin and bone as they didn’t have enough to eat. Now the poor people going to food banks are very overweight. I think this is because healthy food is expensive. Fresh fruit and vegetables are dearer, like meat and fish. Go into Iceland and you can get 3 pizzas for £1. Large bag of frozen chips for £1. Chicken covered in breadcrumbs the same. Cheap meals for children.
It is also down to Domestic Science at school stopped cookery and taught nutrition. Better to teach how to cook cheap meals rather than being taught that what is best for you, you can’t afford!
