At PMQs on 1 December 2021, Keir Starmer asked: “As millions of people were locked down, was a Christmas party thrown in Downing Street for dozens of people on 18 December 2020?”
Boris Johnson replied: “All guidance was followed completely in Number 10.”
Starmer continued to press, saying that at the time, government guidance stated that “you must not have a work Christmas lunch or party”.
Mr Johnson responded: “I have said what I have said about Number 10 and the events of 12 months ago.”
Police have now issued fines for that party on December 18, 2020, which makes Johnson's reply to Starmer on 1 December 2021, at PMQs, a lie.
The guidance was actually stricter than the law, which means that given the law was broken, the guidance was well and truly not followed.
If this lying to Parliament is not brought up by Sue Gray, if not before, I'll be surprised.
