Children and a teacher murdered by an 18 year old who was shot dead by police and more families lives ripped apart by a crazed gun man or terrorist.
How easy is it to get hold of a gun in the US? Do you need a licence? How do you stop someone with mental health issues getting hold of them?

If you dont and just ban guns they will use something else, cross bows, knives cars explosives.
And there are an estimated 400m guns in the US. I have asked many times before but never had an answer so will try again. How do you stop those guns falling into the wrong hands, because if you make it illegal thats where they will go.

This is the 27th school shooting in the USA this year.
Training for what to do in the event of a shooter is common in all schools, to children of all ages.
The most common cause of death in American children is a gun.

It's their DNA as a society. It's hard to change your DNA.

When something is clearly wrong, yet correcting the situation is considered unconstitutional, then clearly the first step is to amend the constitution.
Nothing is guaranteed to stay appropriate for all of time. There can be no rational objection to returning to something in order to reconsider if it's still valid in it's present form.
As for this latest disaster, unfortunately it will continue to be one of a very large series of them until the population there, as a whole, experiences a revelation and converts to not having the means to harm many of their fellow citizens at the same time.

I heard Chris Murphy's speech on the radio this morning, first I knew of this event. I was moved to tears by his words. It is so horrendous I fear we have become almost immune to such events. We make the obligatory remarks of horror and sympathy but nothing does get done.
Furthermore on here, Jeremy Vine, works tea rooms and chats with friends what is everyone still up in arms about..partygate.

Guns are here to stay. BBC stats early this morning showed that 89% of American residents own firearms. If I lived in America I honestly don't know if I would be among the majority.
The problem of mass shootings is not confined to America. There have been enough in this country. Remember Breivik in Norway some 11 years ago.
We cannot solve our own National problems let alone another country's.
But I can never understand how Americans are not changing their gun laws.
Life is precious. I am glad that I have nearly lived my life span. How many more of these stories do we have to read?

You'd have to change the mindset of Americans rather than gun laws. Because gun-ownership is so ingrained in the American psyche, there's no way any law is going to make Americans think again.
If a group opened fire on the crowd at the Super Bowl killing 2,000 people - absolutely *nothing* would change.
This has been going on for too long now. Every school shooting will have the same reactions.

I am sure there are ways they could tighten up regulations without directly affecting their constitutional rights. Things like a licence before purchase, no automatic weapons etc.
BUT, it wouldn't have stopped this, he apparently went in with a hand guns and 'maybe' a rifle. You simply cannot have the gun laws you have in the UK in the USA. People out of towns need to defend themselves not only from each other but from other natural predators. We moan when help doesnt come within the hour. In the USA, unless they have a chopper in the right place it aint coming at all.
As I said right up top. We (they) needs to understand why people are doing this. Other countries have guns but dont have quite the same problem. What is it about the USA disaffected youth that makes them go and kill school children?
