The US has a problem sure, but without the cause (and what weapon was used and why) who knows whether or not people wold have been killed anyway by another method if guns were not available. For instance for the street/gang fights a knife or car (Same for domestic deaths)
As I have said before, rather than the focus on guns (political) the USA needs to focus on why so many deaths happen and why.

Good idea. Take away all the legal registered guns from the mainly decent people and only the criminals will have them.
They have more weapons per head in Canada, Switzerland I think and probably others that don't have the US murder rate.
The enormous disparity in wealth probably doesn't help. Ditto, the nasty identity politics.

You really could not make it up.
Read it while you can folks, the moderation here this morning is particularly robust and this’ll disappear.

Yes, the USA is broken beyond repair. Things that they take for granted on a daily basis would shock here. However, its not our problem so why waste time in conjecture. Guns do not kill. Lay six guns on a table they will remain 'safe' for years as long as a human is not put anywhere near them. What I mean is that education, coupled with creating greater difficulty in procuring a rifle or shotgun, and a total ban on semi-automatic weapons would be a start. This will never happen in the USA they are doomed.

//tomas, 400 million guns (estimated) in the USA. I have asked before and never received a proper answer but lets go again:
How would you get rid of them?//
It’d take time, granted but I believe I read somewhere recently about a government buy-back scheme? May have even been used by the Aussies too after Port Arthur?

the problem is that if you outlaw guns, the only people with guns will be outlaws. I don't know what the answer is but it's not just the availability of guns, they are the tool that makes killing easier but what makes them tick why do they kill each other so readily? As YMB said more analyses would help about the circumstances. Also they should really start to analyse the mind set of those like the school shooter. What makes an 18 year old so angry to do that? what is it about US society that is failing these kids?

//So all the criminals - and those living out of cities will hand them back? And that ignores those normally law abiding citizens that would feel very threatened by not having a gun when criminals do.
Your having a giraffe.//
Just answering your question. As I said, it’ll take time but you’ve got to start somewhere.
As for the giraffe quip, ask yourself why there’s been no mass shooting in Australia since the legislation that was introduced after the Port Arthur Massacre some 26 years ago?
Or give us a solution of your own?
