Why won't our Police look into this? It is not acceptable to bring these backward practices here and not expect repercussions. We do not allow our women to be beaten and they are equals with men. If these people dont like our way of like why dont they push off to somewhere who does - not that I think these practices are acceptable anywhere

Muslim religion teaches that women are chattels and beneath men making violence towards them less of a social taboo.

pixie we are going round in circles. If you want to exclude the term "honour killings" then fine but murders of daughters by their own families are carried out by muslim men, fact. You seem determined to ignore that. I thought you'd grasped the set theory above but you now seem to have regressed. What is your connection with the muslim world that means you fight tooth and nail to avoid the truth in this matter?
Why zacs? The causes and results are the same, so why is it different, better, worse, if religion gets the blame? Personally, I prefer adults to be responsible for their own thinking and behaviour, without being given excuses to use.
We still see women as chattel here, zacs- but that isn't what I'm saying. I am purely saying that religion is the excuse for violence, not the cause.

Ttt, you aren't reading or responding to my posts- I have no idea what to say to you! I don't care about the words- I am saying the same thing happens everywhere worldwide, regardless if religion.
Let them off, by giving them a "reason" if you like. I refuse to- it is entirely the fault of the perpetrator. You are much kinder than me, I think.

pixie: "I am saying the same thing happens everywhere worldwide, regardless if religion. " - it does not, for christ sake how many more times. Find me one example, just one of a non muslim family killing their own daughter because she refused and arranged marriage or married someone without their consent.
That's even worse, zacs, if the statistics only include those killed....
In the Western world, we are so used to it, either nobody notices, or it's seen as "feminist" to think. How many women do you know, who have either changed their surnames, or named their children after their dad? Our "traditions" are hard to change too. We still tell women how to behave to keep themselves safe, as if they is their responsibility... sex pay gap? I am not even going to bother going further...
But, I don't see why a white woman being killed by her partner through jealousy is any more acceptable- and the causes are no different.
Why are we so reluctant to see violence as a predominantly male problem, but fully happy to link it with religion? That isn't actually what is happening.

pixie: "Not because they are muslim- or men- because they are controlling scumbags."
- ok they are Muslim Male controlling scumbags
"If you were right, it wouldn't happen amongst non-muslims too. " - I know of no cases of the equivalent of honour killings that are not by muslims, please provide some examples if you have them.

TORATORATORA, this should help you to understand that "honour-killing" is not carried out only by Muslims.
"The behaviour that merits an honour-redeeming response varies between [India and Pakistan] and between Hindu and Muslim communities.
For instance, in the caste system in India, marrying outside of one’s caste is considered culturally forbidden, as are romantic and sexual relations with members of the same sub-caste (gotra); both are transgressions punishable with honour killings. In contrast, in Pakistan and Afghanistan, first-cousin marriage is widely accepted and not considered a punishable offence.
In honor killings in Hindu communities in India, not just women but also men are more likely to be killed if involved in unsanctioned romantic relationships, while men tend to be punished less in honour killings in Pakistan (Chesler & Bloom, 2012)."
