Back in the 80s my flatmate had a termination. She didn't go via the NHS because the waiting list was long but couldn't afford to go private so she went to some sort of charitable place where she paid but didn't have to pay that much. Anyway, she told me that on the day that she had the termination there were girls/women there from Ireland, Spain and even as far away as Kenya. As a previous poster said, if you have money you can travel to have the termination, if you don't then you take your chances with backstreet. Not everyone can take an unwanted pregnancy to full term and have the baby adopted. That is just not possible in some cultures.

Contraception is widely available and in the main effective. In the case of rape etc things are very different.

This subject is as polarising as it is emotive, and the two sides of the abortion debate will line up and take shots at each others' views, and neither will change easily, if at all.

I have always believed that the only person who has the right to determine if a pregnancy is carried to term or not is the woman carrying it.

Of course almost everyone has an opinion, but since each situation is unique, a 'one size fits all' rule is simply not appropriate.
