Ecclestone and his Formula 1 chums were very reluctant to cancel the Russian Grand Prix after the invasion. It believed the war would be brief and that it could be business as usual by the autumn. Forget the ethics, the race makes them £140Million, and they didn’t want to lose that. Unfortunately the drivers (including 3 world champions) cancelled it for...
Conveniently forgetting that Russia has been illegally occupying parts of Ukraine since 2014.
I don’t think he ever had the plot to lose it. He puts making vast amounts of money ahead of any moral considerations. He takes Putins money, just as easily as he takes the money from blood on their hands Arabs.
""Unfortunately he's like a lot of business people, certainly like me, that we make mistakes from time to time and when you make the mistake, you have to do the best you can to get out of it," he said."
Ha ! Hoisted by his own petard. Business reasons eh ? Anyway, what effort has Putin made to get out ? He's still pushing forward.
I reckon "sensible" Vlad has the rights to "Bernie and the russian Prossies" - cert X (part of the series "Grand Pricks of our time"), possibly showing in a cinema near you if you aren't careful - which is actually, quite sensible of him in a way ...
The lates visitor to go to Ukraine to see Volodymyr Zelenskyy is Richard Branson !
Will there be swords drawn in a dual between Branson and Eccleston ?

Unfortunately the drivers (including 3 world champions) cancelled it for them. The said they wouldn’t drive there. And Ecclestone and his money grubbing acolytes have been sulking ever since.
Putin is quite a charismatic figure in many ways. For someone like Ecclestone who as Gromit rightly says is only interested in lining his pockets, and who has doubtless schmoozed with this bandit many times over the years, it might be hard in any case to convince yourself you've been supping with the devil all this time.
He wouldn't be the first.
I had to smile at the stunning revelation by US intelligence that Putin still wants to take most of Ukraine.
And that consequently the war might last "a long time".
