There were updates from 25m ago (Inde) 40m (Guardian) saying he was still alive. Hence my confusion.
RIP. Terrible thing to happen.
Shocking and cowardly.

RIP Shinzo Abe
Dreadful but I don't know anything about him. Was he such a bad PM? Controversial? It seems odd to shoot someone when they're no longer in office - it serves no purpose - so I guess I'm looking for the 'why?'
Boris has put out a nice Tweet:

https://twitter.com/BorisJohnson/status/1545337519314796544

It says "unchartered" when he meant "uncharted" but the tone is right, especially "The UK stands with you at this dark and sad time."

^Shame about the idiots using that message to slag off Johnson.
No decorum. ;-(
"in cardio respiratory arrest" is always used if some one looks bad and is taken to hospital.
So those words in Japan have a different meaning.
yeah dead.
What does it all mean, Naomi wisely wonders to me
Well, my dears, Abe was one to rewrite history - America was the aggressor, the Japanese ( if you please) aint done narfin, and the yanks wiped out 2 cities just like that.

Also 0645 Simon Wingfield burbled like a good'um that this had never been seen before ever ever in Japan
So I rose up and penned this morning: Dear Sir,

Can you ALSO pass this onto R4 - Simon Wingfield Hayes - 0645 just NOT knowing about assassination attempts on Japanese Prime Ministers.

Bear in mind with irony that Shinzo Abe was a great rewriter of history . And Simon ( bless!) burbled in best Beeb manner that assassinations by shot gun was almost unheard of. That means Simon couldnt off hand think of one

Short memory ( PP sneers, how like, how very like AB!)

The Start of Japanese militarism we were all taught was the - - - assassination of the then Japanese Prime Minister in 1921 in Tokyo Railway Station (1) there is a coin ( excuse me?) set into the terrazzo of the main concourse of the station where the evil act was done .

(1)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hara_Takashi

and here is another one: |(2) 1910 : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Jung-geun

Can you get your *** into gear please? Yes I am aware there is a big deal to rewrite history in Japan and whitewash difficult bits . And as far as the Beeb is concerned ...... it has been successful hasnt it?

signed dear old Peter Pedant

and here is a third on You tube (3) this time partially filled

jesus they even have it on U tube ( take out the +)

So - shooting prime ministers is Japan seems to have been a past time in the rise of Japan in the thirties

Wow says Naomi, Google is good innit?

well I say modestly, I knew about the assassination and the rise of the Military Party anyway.
oh sent orf to the Beeb - I have cleaned up a lot of it
stars rhyme with mars bars

Only four in the last hundred years
hardly an epidemic is it?
Rupert Wingfield-Hayes, Peter.
Very sad.

Let us all honour Shinzo Abe by denying that this crime ever happened...

it's what he would have wanted.
