So now Brexit is nearly done are you suggesting that all the Red Wallers will return to voting Labour (or not bothering)? I can't see Labour putting aside their factionalism. So another hung parliament, unsatisfactory coalition in 18 months - 2 years?
drmorgans, who are you talking to?
Let’s meet the eight
Who are going to vituperate :-)

I find myself on the same side as Dorries and Rees-Mogg, albeit coincidentally.
Ah well, them’s the breaks I suppose

Naomi, I often ask myself the same question.
Dorries was never going to say anything nice about any of those who stabbed her 'beau' in the back.

Horrible image. Never has the phrase "bumping uglies" sounded so appropriate.

Getting rid of Boris is the greatest political blunder since Labour (Gordon Brown) sold off our gold, just before it rocketed in value.
I think you're wrong khandro. You're assuming that because he's still as popular as he ever was with you personally, that must apply to most other people.

They got rid because they could see he had become a liability. They will do better at the next election with a different leader than they would have done with Johnson. Even if they lose, they will still have lost by less than they would have done with him.
I think Khandro is right. This government is on a path to self-destruction.

tomus; //They will do better at the next election with a different leader than they would have done with Johnson.//

Dream on ! The Tories are going nowhere with any of that proposed shower in charge. The next UK government will be (& all because of this disastrous move) a cobbled together Labour/Liberal/Green(?) coalition, & Lord help us.
How would you explain the two disastrous by-election results (particularly Honiton) when johnson was still firmly in charge?

Bit more than the usual mid term slump I'd have thought.
Those results, and amongst other things his booing at the jubilee celebrations were a judgement on the man himself.

tomus; People close to Boris say that he's actually a shy & modest sort of person in his private life.

If he had done what that snake-in-grass, Sunak. has done; got in a PR firm to make a biographic representation of all he has achieved in life & during his place as PM, (though that isn't his style) I think he would come out looking pretty good.
//The Tories are going nowhere with any of that proposed shower in charge//

You have no idea what will happen, your man lost get over it and move on.

He was unpopular with Middle England and its those people who sway the vote. Regular Conservatives like us dont (although I really dont think I could have voted for Johnson if he was still there).

And besides you seem to be forgetting that since Sir Kier and GOAS are still leading labour their chances of winning are very slim. Bet the labour stalwarts wish Durham Rozzers had prosecuted them so they could be rid. Still, every cloud ...
//tomus; People close to Boris say that he's actually a shy & modest sort of person in his private life.//

Who cares(if it is true which I doubt), its his public life that matters and thats why the by-elections went south.
ymb, //He was unpopular with Middle England //

You keep saying that but it's not my experience. I don't know anyone in 'middle England' who is anti-Boris. I think this was a smear campaign generated by people who wanted rid of him - and much of it manufactured and certainly exaggerated by those sucking sour grapes over Brexit. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re, Sunak; this is interesting too;

Don’t forget North Staffs prior to those! Catastrophic result that they ignored.
youngmafbog,

Yeah, because we know who the other one is in the ‘us’ and I’m not talking about Naomi. PMSL
// I don't know anyone in 'middle England' who is anti-Boris. //

Maybe you should get out more.

I strongly suspect you dont mix with 'white van man' self employed people?

And anyway I do know some, quite a few actually.
Honiton is pretty middle England Naomi. Safe Tory seat with huge majority until very recently. Again, how do you explain that loss if everyone still loves Boris?
