............was the impression I got when the Tory MPs applauded Johnson out of the commons yesterday. I can only assume that the applause was relief at finally getting rid of him. Can't think of any other reason to applaud him.

//Ich, you have a very strange notion of 'decent', Ich. She did all she could to thwart the result of that EU referendum, 'Decent' that ain't.//
Lol, in the same way Johnson tried to thwart the Gray Report just prior to publication.
Lack of decency must be a Tory party trait, the appointment of Pincher proved that.

FatticusInch at 9.29 - I agree.
Even right up to the eve of the GE, Corbyn wouldn't be drawn on his Brexit stance, so Labour voters who voted for Brexit, notably in the Red Wall, couldn't trust Corbyn, hence the "lending" of their votes to BJ because at least they knew his stance.
The Tory majority was an undeniable success, but it's my view this was in no small part to Corbyn (plus the unutterable fear of having McDonnell in charge of the nation's purse strings and Abbott in charge of the nation's security).

Theresa may kept coming up with agreements which Parliament kept rejecting. If Parliament had not been allowd to vote on the issue ironically we would have left the EU a lot earlier (cue the old "oh but that's not Brexit" argument yet again (!) )
Johnson cheated really. Maybe that was the right thing to do, but cheat he did ...

The last election was effectively a referendum on finally kicking the Brexit impasse into touch. That is why places like Cheltenham shrugged its shoulders wearily and rejected the Lib Dem candidate who has looked like winning for long periods in the run up.
It's actually why Johnson ended up PM in the first place. Once he'd "got Brexit done" that was really it.

Not only is it traditional, unless you're an MP with no sense of courtesy, and it would be heartfelt since BJ achieved a lot of things that needed doing, often in the face of unreasonable opposition from antidemocracy MPs and private individuals. His personal life failings are as nought compared to his ability to achieve, as has been the case with many achievers in the past. But this must be obvious, surely.
