A letter in this morning's Daily Telegraph; does Mr. Shadwell have a point?

SIR – Tory MPs have chosen electoral suicide, having once again not listened to their constituents.

Rishi Sunak is a multi-millionaire who has no understanding of voters and their worries, cares or frustrations. Liz Truss has no charisma, relying on old policies and sound bites. She is not Margaret Thatcher. Neither stands a chance of winning the next general election.

The Conservative Party knew what it was getting when Boris Johnson was elected. Where were the so-called grandees, the 1922 Committee and the Cabinet in controlling and advising him, or privately rebuking him when he was wrong? They all knew the nature of the man.

They were nowhere. All were concerned about themselves, not the country or the Conservative Party. The consequence may be consignment to the political wilderness for a generation. I fear for my country.

// He's strong and determined - a natural and charismatic leader //

Odd then that 148 of his own MPs had no confidence in him as leader.
//I see no need to repeat myself, I'm not you or Tora.

In conclusion, stop pretending to be Head Girl, it's embarrassing for a woman of your years. //

Coward.
Gromit, not odd at all. Read my post.
Still afflicted with Repetitive Pain Disorder, that can be nasty.
Carry on.

Rishi Sunak is not on his own. Career politicians like him don't have the faintest idea what life is like for the ordinary person in this country. Not a kn clue. What it means to raise children, pay a mortgage or rent, hold down a job, manage the household. No idea. Clueless. For these people, who have more money than sense, the money isn't enough. They get bored. They want something else. They want power. They want in fluence. They see that by entering politics to fulfill their own selfish and arrogant ways. At the same time, you, me and the rest of the great unwashed, can go and whistle mate.
10Clarionst, Yes, I agree. It seems that most of the people who end up in Parliament are the very people who shouldn't be there. It's a great pity they don't remember JFK's statement about serving their country.

douglas, you used to be one of the witty ones on this site, recently you have become one of the- well, it rhymes with witty but wouldn't get past the censors.
//No one was bothered about Boris’ green policies except you.//

Wrong. I was. And so was anybody who cares about the UK's energy security. The state that Germany now finds itself in demonstrates why.
I see it slightly differently, Vulcan, others have become fartier.
Germany is a special case. It would be most unfair to link the UK with Germany in this regard.
As for removing "Boris Blunder" (an apt name!) one advantage to Johnson of goping now will be he and his supporters will able to say "I told you so"/"it wasn't my fault" for as long as any one cares to listen to them and longer. It is rather unlikely, whatever the result of the next GE that it will see anything other than a reduction at least in the Conservative majority, and no doubt that will be blamed on the new leader by some.
In summary:

SIR – Tory MPs are concerned only about themselves and I fear for my country.
Sorry, I missed the signature:

SIR – Tory MPs are concerned only about themselves and I fear for my country. signed ... A Tory Supporter

You know things are bad when letters like that are sent and published. To be fair, if I was writing a letter it wouldn't be about Tory MPs specifically, it would be something like:

SIR – Regardless of political persuasion, many MPs are nice enough people and some aren't, but most MPs are completely unfit for purpose, so unfit that they don't even realise they're unfit, and because I don't see that ever being solved, in fact I see it getting worse, I fear for my country. signed ... A UK supporter
He does have a point, but by then most were on the gravy train and/or did nothing as he broke the law, lied to parliament and lied to them.
None were willing to challenge the monster they’d created and the toxic environment of the cabinet is now being played out before our very eyes, as the leadership contest has shown.
They created the mess, divisions and suspicions, they now have 2 years to put right what they got wrong.

They have a snowballs chance in a furnace.
Tosh. 'They've chosen electoral suicide'. So he's a soothsayer? No-one knows what will happen before now and the GE. John Smith died unexpectedly, Johnson became Tory leader unexpectedly, people voted 'out' unexpectedly...
Ellip: 'I fear for my country'. A little melodramatic. Fear not. Everything will be OK. Compare our likely fate with that of the people of Ukraine.

Well that is one big porkie.

Lol, I believe we’ve already had enough influence from the Russians, maybe a little less now Johnsonski is finished?
most MPs are completely unfit for purpose

I wouldn't go that far, Ellipsis, many are good at the jobs and popular locally (even Tories). It's the ones who are promoted into government that are the problem. Appointed as Gromit says on the basis of being yes-people rather than competent people.
Boris should never have sacked Cummings - every leader needs a good manipulator.
Sunak not having any understanding of voters worries? Didn't see anyone pulling him down when he arranged to have 80% of voters and none voters wages paid. :0)
