This Energy price free for all started with that Nasty Lady Thatcher ,way back in the 1970s. An academic Dr Stephen Littlechild came up with the idea of free market in electricity. Thatcher introduced this madness on the advice of her energy Secretary John Wakeham.,,,, Littlechild was made regulator for the new energy market by Thatcher , and ended up the board of an Enron subsidiary , while Wakeham was elevated to to the Lords and he was on the Enron Board. And of course Enron collapsed in 2001 due to ......."Fraud And Corruption".,,, And all these years later its still hurting.

That’s a full paragraph without mentioning Boris, are you okay Gully?
France, Greece, Portugal, Spain - who privatised their energy? I don't think it was Mrs Thatcher

18.42 Time to nationalise the utility industry NOW.
How much will this cost gully?
nationalisation is unlikely to provide any relief. In the Netherlands all utilities are publicly owned, and it would need a law change to change that. and yet the Dutch pay the second highest price in Europe for their gas......

19.16 About half the amount of the never been seen, or dreamed of profits , that the energy and fuel Companies are raking in now.
With predictions today too that we’ll be in recesssion for the next 15 months it’s going to be a real baptism of fire for the Thatcher wannabe when she takes post shortly.
By the time the GE comes around she’ll have a snowballs chance in a furnace.
gully @19:34

19.53 "you know numbers".....Yes I know numbers...
...and letters...
But you don't know links do you.
what a load of efffing bolloxx this is - no notion of the fact that the ehergy markets work on global markets and daily or term movements and in which the UK Inc and its member companies are largely bit-players/companies - even such as the majors like Shell or BP.

For ***'s sake, my good fellow, get a sense of proper economic history and what goes on in international trading and product markets be they oil, gas, chemicals, metals or other commodities before spouting such trite rubbish.

What I have read at the start is the blathering of a potential ijiut or dangerous loon, not even a well-read socialist, communist or anybody of a well-founded political or economical persuasion.]

On top of the energy crisis it seems that the UK is only days away from slipping into recession .Thanks to the present corrupt Tory Govt. And Boris, who caused it all, is over the hills and far away. Skipping hand in hand with Carrie across the sunlit meadows of Brexit..Bless
I remember the 70s with nationalised industries. They were all shockingly bad.

It's a pity we can't bring a bit of competition now to passport and driving licence issue.
the trains were a nightmare when in public ownership. I remember it well, same for other industries.....
can someone tell Jonathan Swift that his offspring is making a complete ass of himself - for his info, I worked for over 25 years in oil marketing, trading and research, so I do have some semblance of how the market works - and countries where utilities or oil markets are run by government usually have pretty shambolic organisations with little customer service and safety often compromised.
No doubt gulliver blames boris for the high energy bills, inflation, airport chaos... and recession across the EU.

Gulliver... why do you keep making fun of Dtcrossword fan as a shelfstacker or ricekrispie worker ( he's not) but me and many other stack shelves, collect trolleys, work in stockroom and do what you obviousley consider menial jobs for losers ...nothing to be sneered at. And you say Boris is a snob!!
“It's a pity we can't bring a bit of competition now to passport and driving licence issue”

I hope that’s a joke!
I realise some people have an issue with passports, usually the ones who leave it to the last minute. Although mine had actually expired before I applied and had a new one in days
