Apart from passive smoking which has now been addressed, none of those things pose a health risk to anyone other than the person indulging. No one contracts obesity or alcoholism from anyone else and no one passes those health issues on to anyone else.

Moot schmoot, if were all the same and all in it together then there's no need for special treatment of a particular group, not even if they're proud.
The actual facts may emerge eventually though.

so us olds are gonna be OK - routine small pox vacca stopped in 1967 I think

We're not all in this together at this point. The reason that men who sleep with men need to be vaccinated now is because the disease is prevalent amongst this group.

eventually monkey pox probably will spread outside of gay men if it is not contained… the disease broke out there first and is still among them… it has spread among gay/bi men because lf the number of sexual partners…
even straight people who sleep around do not tend to have as many sexual partners as gay/bi men… there is no evidence at all that wearing condoms can stop monkeypox…
we deal with the world as it is, not as we would like it… we can either sneer at homosexual men for getting much more sex than the rest of us and wag our finger in judgement, or we can do something… it really depends what your preferred outcome is. i would rather see monkeypox contained so getting them vaccinated seems like the best way to do that.

It doesn’t matter if the health risk is to the individual or a group - there is no reason not to fund reasearch and treatment of the disease - same way we do with diseases caused by smoking, poor diet abd excessive alcohol consumption.
We can’t expect people to change their behaviours in the hope that resultant disease will be eradicated.
Also - as has been stated before. Promiscuity has been a fact of life since the pill was first made available.
And those carrying the monkeypox virus in its incubation phase (The incubation period is 3-17 days) will not have symptoms and may feel fine.
Also - dignity and self respect? That’s a judgement call and not something that I’ve noticed among the gay men I know. They seem to have plenty of dignity and self respect. Are you referring to people that you know?

It doesn’t matter if the health risk is to the individual or a group - there is no reason not to fund reasearch and treatment of the disease - same way we do with diseases caused by smoking, poor diet abd excessive alcohol consumption.
