or ‘putting a different perspective on events’ as some might say.

//Bosses of the London theatre
say the play, I, Joan - which
charts the life of the French
patron saint - will "offer the
possibility of another point of
view" when it arrives later this
month.
The lead role will be played by
Isobel Thom, who also uses the
pronouns "they/them".//

The pronoun bit told me everything.
Maid of Orleans or Made in Orleans?
What next? All female adaptation of The Crusades?

Blubster, I believe the definitive Joan (so far, at least) was Falconetti in Dreyer's silent film from 1928. It was all done with faces, but it's one of the great classics

Learned folk like to debate any nonsense. Not that they have any evidence, as that would spoil the sport. Now how many angels do you think can dance on the head of a pin ?
A Glowb(ull) theatre spokesbloke is not due to announce that rehearsals are coming along nicely for the next, laugh a minute, sell out, productions. Ghengis Khan "The Bow In My Hair Had It's Drawbacks". Adolf "The Transition Was Incomplete". Leaving him of course with only one as the long forgotten song used to lament. Davey Crocket " The Tail On My Hat Has a Tale of It's Own, But It Is Nuts"

All fruits do not readily provide a concentrate that is good for you!
I haven't seen any of the films cited here. All I know is based on a reading of Jean Anouilh's play "L'Alouette", which used a lot of Jeanne's written trial records. Like most historical figures, I presume that her story has been used for various purposes, and has been interpreted and altered. I think it's a bit daft to get in a strop about someone staging their own take on an old story. It's what writer's and dramatists do.
It's interesting that Naomi refuses to watch this play because it conflicts with her opinions. Who was it who refused to look through an early telescope because he didn't want to see what would be there before his eye?
Atheist, what opinions would they be?
How to get a play publicised. That's it.
Naomi, your opinions on wokeism. (Maybe I'm mistaken; if so, then tell me and I'll apologise).
//Who was it who refused to look through an early telescope because he didn't want to see what would be there before his eye?//

Ahh that would be Nelson. His wife Winnie said that it was all nonsense and back home in the village all the worriers(I think that should be warriers) would stand in line and Shake Spears at the very idea.
But the debate about Joan has been going on for centuries. Or are people who have expended their energies on this thread been unaware of that fact? If so, why do they suddenly think it has to do with PC or Woke. This debate has been going on FOR CENTURIES.
What debate are you talking about?
Naomi: For goodness sake. The debate about whether he/she was male or female. The clue's in the posted question.
That’s what I thought you meant which is why I asked. That isn’t the issue here.
Naomi. What is the issue here?
But it isn’t about the “real” joan of arc, who is lost to history and unknowable…it is about a fictional version of her.

it could well be that this play is very “of it’s time” and not much else… most art produced in any given era will be… there is no harm in that. It may also be that it is good enough to strike a chord with an audience.

either way this is harmless… and i do not understand why people want to whinge.
Untitled. I think that whinging is what keeps them going. Being indignant and Tunbridge-Wells-ish and disapproving of people not like themselves does them a power of good. Good luck to them all. We all do our best to survive.
Meh. What a load of fuss about nothing. It doesn't claim to be historically accurate, so it's portrayal of the character doesn't need to reflect history. It's not trying to change history.

//Won’t be long before we get Hitler: The Musical//
Somebody hasn't seen The Producers I assume.
Question Author
Yes Mozz, I have. Was also looking forward to Jews In Space.

I mean the full Hollywood treatment, a famous actor to play Adolf and a score by John Williams of course!
