We have not even got the summer over yet and that *** on GB news Eamonn Holmes said this morning that the strike at Felixstone could put Xmas in danger.The media in this country and especially EH need to stop looking for this constant need doom and gloom.

It could be. It's difficult to disentangle the effects of each event. But rather than the pandemic, I would suggest instead it could be governments' reaction to it. In our own particular case, splashing more than £400bn to pay workers to stay at home, the forcible closing of many businesses and £30-odd billion on a completely hopeless and unnecessary test and trace system may have had some influence. It was obvious back in the "furlough summer" of 2020, when people were merrily posting on social media about their wonderful free time off in the sun, that it would come back to bite us all at some point. Unfortunately it has. The bill has just landed on the mat.
