They are often removed for their own safety, at times like this.

"should the police arrest you for doing something they consider to be discourteous?"
I'm no legal expert but I'm fairly sure they already are obligated to keep the peace (although their tolerance of antisocial behaviour, especially woke related, and wiilingness to pursue those objecting to it, might cause you believe otherwise).

> who was being harassed or distressed by the people holding signs
Most of the other people there. Quite simply, you don't go to that place at that time to hold up that sign, or you're in danger of disturbing the peace. Other times, maybe OK.
> or the man who asked about charles?
That one is different. In my opinion, he shouldn't have been arrested because he was voicing discontent during the enactment of our pseudo-democratic process ("Who elected him?"). A good place and time to protest, if you ask me.

> I think the fact that holding up that sign peacefully "risked a breach of the peace" (which is a polite way of saying they would have been attacked by someone) suggests something very unflattering about this country.
No, the sign-holders are breaching the peace (or at risk of being deemed to be possibly breaching the peace, sufficient to be arrested) themselves ... for "harrassment" and "distress".

I can only agree, Untitled. "Eff off you monarchists" might be insulting and arrestable, but "Not my king"?
It's not only the British bobby who's cracking down, though: the Saudis are doing likewise - not a regime I'd like to be compared with

I'd better keep my opinion on this private lest I have my collar felt.

remember the police interpret religious law as well as their own criminal law - ya-salaam, ya sayyidaty! ( dat Arabic for - oo-er Mrs!)
It says you can do a pilgrim on behalf of a decd muslim ( hey come on: very close to prayers for the dead which is verboten) [ dat hun-lingo as TTT wd say for noo-noo !)
You certainly cant do it for a christian who is head of church to boot. and of course he wd probably know that

with them being arrested is they will sit on the Police system as a NFA
I cannot think why I reviewed NFA ( no further action) as part of data which cd be erasable
but.... the leading case is:
YZ v Chief constable of South Wales
[2022] EWCA Civ 683
There was a previous fun case ( same name) ( that wd be sub nom id., I suppose)
[2021] EWHC 1060 (Admin).
You can do it by application - but you have to squeeze it into one of seven or eight categories. No squeezee, no erazee. They say correctly I think, that you have to hire a lawyer to do it successfully.
very technical point: most ABers should skip this. Yeah put it at the end as a joke
