That wasn't much of a surprise - she was old!
That's very indefinite isn't it. Old-age is more of a reason that an actual cause.
the Scots put the time of death on certificates; the English don't.

All the same, I wonder if that's all there was to it. Do people usually die suddenly of old age?
There has to be a more specific cause - I think a stroke that she was too frail to survive is most likely. But hey, maybe they thought a full autopsy wasn't really called for.
I thought that jno, old age is normally a secondary cause. Still as long as she died peacefully, that's what matters.
I've seen old age given as the sole cause of death on the certificate two or three times.
from the daily mail......
"While 'old age' can be listed as contributing to a death, official guidelines state it should only be used as sole cause of death in very limited circumstances.

There is no official age limit for saying someone died of 'old age' but it is generally only accepted if the person is over 80.

The doctor should also have cared for the deceased for years or months and noticed a general decline in their health, as well as their functioning in day-to-day life.

There must also be no obvious identifiable disease or injury that contributed to their death, though 'old age' can be listed as contributing factor.

The final official condition for using 'old age' as the cause of death is that the doctor is 'certain' there is no reason that the death should be reported to the coroner for further investigation.
Only thing guaranteed in this life is death god save the king
“ general decline in their health, as well as their functioning in day-to-day life. “

i do think this happened
Jno. Yes, my grandfather died of old age. My grandmother .
went to bed with a cold and died the next day. We'd been on a shopping trip a few days before. She was a very active old lady who was the life and soul the party
Good answer by nero2024.

It would seem a convenient cause of death, although you see Boris Johnson and Liz Truss on day and 2 days later one is dead.........old age comes on quickly ;-)
Minor technicality - same conditions apply in Scotland, but Scotland has a procurator fiscal, not a coroner.
Great way to die!
some people do die of old age, but I would have thought that usually involved slow decline rather than what appears to have been a quite abrupt one. It could be as Sqad suggests that she'd just started hanging out with the wrong sort of person.
And I have a wooden leg....heart attack like her father.
Her heart did stop beating i assume that is how she died our poor queen god bless her soul so though she has been blessed
stating the bleeding obvious there...!
No one dies of old age, it isn't a cause of death. They may die of something that was made more likely because of the age of the person. It seems to be listed as cause when the medical profession decides there is no benefit to actually finding out the actual cause. Fair enough I suppose, but a little unsatisfying for the interested.
