It's rare for me to criticise this lady but as far as I can see there are people of all colours, nationalities and persuasions gracing our screens these days but we are rarely aware of their religion, and for good reason. We don't need to be aware of their religion. Actors are actors - aren't they?

I thought it might be something like 'Turkish taffy...daffy'
But...as far as I know, Turkish taffy is American.
oh translation time
pregant wombat, is the longest word in the office language Ptydepe.
gh means productivity and f has no set meaning, and is reserved for word that is commoner than 'productivity'

Vaclav Havel was to become first pres of Czech Repbblic after the velvet revolution ( you know the one that Putin is trying to roll back). But who was to know that when he was scribbling in a garret in 1965?

Murray Melvin (looks like the groom in the Van Eyck ptg Groninge museum) was a student. Warren Mitchel (silly moo) was Thumb.

f and gh are NOT the most used morphemes, graphemes or phonemes. etuio is. Ptydepe is a metaphor for impenetrable Marxist cant and in fact the Memorandum never gets translated.

I have no idea why I remember the 1965 BBCtv transmission so clearly
Am wondering why she doesn't hit out at Bollywood as well.
(Tongue in cheek)
I don't mind what religion,if any, an actor has.

//wiltsman, rhyming slang is a living language with new rhymes being added all the time. Usually pretty easy to work out once you get past the attitude. Google will find many rhyming slang dictionaries but they are not all consistent. Eg these days we say Turkish (bath) for laugh but originally it was Bubble bath. Bubble (and squeak) is also used for Greek so you can't miss off the last word hence "Turkish" is now preferred.//

Further irony is that the poster is a banker, or claims to work in/for one.
Make up your own rhyming slang for that.
Well, as is my strategy now, I leave the thread . When we do that it’s unfair on the OP. Today it’s Naomi .
If some want to steer the thread off course, could they please start their own instead of transgressing
Thank you
as far as I can see

nonetheless, she quotes the figures: “I learned that Asian people like me make up less than four per cent of leads in Hollywood films,” she said. “Muslims are 25 per cent of the population, but only one per cent of characters in popular TV series.

Perhaps her statistics go beyond your personal viewing preferences? Or perhaps she's specifically talking about Hollywood and you aren't?

Hollywood does deal in a lot of clichés, perhaps more so than British TV - for instance the unusually high number of movie villains played by Brits. Or on the other hand the number of black leading roles in movies played by Brits.
// Make up your own rhyming slang for that. //

Jodrell, I think it is……
I always thought 'giraffe' was rhyming slang for 'laugh'.
it is if you want it to be tigs
What The Funicular is Roger mellie?

It’s nothing to do with my viewing preferences, Jno. Unless religion is relevant to the plot lead roles rarely encompass it.
25%? Haven't read the link but surely if you must use demographics to make these fatuous claims. You can only use national ones.
And while I haven't looked, I expect they make up less than 1% of the population.
I do apologise if I got the wrong end of the stick.
Piggy, Roger Mellie is a character from Viz comic. "Roger Mellie, the man on the telly" is a foul mouthed tv presenter.

A quick Google confirms the figure in the US is about 1.1%.
Malala probably didn't see Ms. Marvel on Disney+. Teenage Muslim superhero. Very enjoyable, and chock full of Muslim imagery and history.

Hollywood (and performing arts) are a casting contradiction. they tell us that actors are actors and the audience should be colour blind (and all sorts of "other" blind too) - so we get a black Ann Boleyn (historically inaccurate) and are very likely to get a black Bond (even though no ethnic person has ever attained that rank). yet they also tell us that only gay actors can play gay parts, only middle-eastern actors can play middle eastern characters - and if they were casting the part of Hayley in Corrie now, would Julie Hesmondhalgh get the gig?
there is nothing good in islam that needs represention 0 it's a death cult pur and simple, why she wants this is.. i have no idea, if anything she should have tossed that death cult for more enlightened thinking and be more against it, striving for women like herself wrapped up in that death cult to move beyond it.
