I start a new thread on this especially as there are suggestions from Ukrainian intelligence that these were planned as early as 2-3 October.

No suggestion tho of course of any sort if false flag when it comes to the bridge.
And of course the intelligence isn’t verified

" I will revenge mother russia by bombing the Nat hist museum and glass bridge..." Beeb being a bit 'loose' on all this. " you can see the little children screaminng in terror as they flee the rockets of doom!"

I still doan think a surface lorry can bring down a bridge. I agree ( as a materials stress scientist) that if it foops UP , a road can come off its pillars - BUT you start with an upwards impulse as the explosion bounces off the road. You will only get the explosive impulse to go down if you put a few sheet of inch thick steel in the lorry's roof.
bit technical

Did they hit the national history museum?

I spent a rainy Saturday there once

Natural history ….
^Read the replies underneath that BBC article. They make the people that post on here sound quite sane and reasonable.
Meanwhile, everything is going to plan.

I see what you mean.
Sad old Noam Chomsky first up.
He’s a deranged intellectual.
The others I’d imagine are tankie, vatnik trash.
If I go reading too much of that I’ll need more blood pressure tablets

In any case, this is only an “escalation” in the mind of Putin.
He hopes the fact it’s mainly the capital and therefore get the west’s attention, will spook said to abandon Ukraine.
Secondly maximum impact is achieved by sending a splurge of missiles because most these days get shot down
Prediction:

Putin is a coward, ( you may remember I sent him a white feather 3 months ago) He is only 'strong' when he is in a position of safety. The attacks today on civilians are as far as he dare go, though he would continue to order escalation if he had a sufficient supply of weapons, which I don't think he has. Going further than this, his only option would be nuclear, which he won't do because he hasn't the balls & it would put his autocratic control in jeopardy which is the only thing he really cares about.

He is fighting a war he cannot win & knows it. What he will do, rather than face the humiliation of defeat & after blaming everyone else but himself for this, one of the greatest military blunders in world history, being too cowardly to take the bottle of vodka & revolver exit, is to step down & appoint some stooge as his successor in the hope that he will somehow be able to slip away & avoid retribution from the civilized world.

I think you’re right there khandro.
This act by Putin today actually betrays his weakness because it’s likely he’s under severe pressure from the extreme nationalists to look strong and he evidently views such people as the biggest threats to his power.
The essential dynamic hasn’t changed; which is that he’s losing militarily.
Ukraine’s allies can help speed this process by giving them the weapons they need to finish it quickly
Question Author
Seems indeed that further to the OP this wasn’t a “revenge” attack.
Last night's television news made grim viewing.

Lots more missiles this morning
The new military thug in charge masterminded Aleppo

I look forward to today’s speech by Director GCHQ. I think he will bear hopeful news
I struggle to understand Putins thinking on this.

Bombing civilian cities rather than attacking troops will only alienate Russia from the rest of the World even more whilst simultaneously hardening the Ukrainian resolve. And why 'waste' ammo on civilians when you are clearly struggling on the front line?

Madness.
//And why 'waste' ammo on civilians when you are clearly struggling on the front line?//

In a word, - 'spite', initiated by blind rage.

He's doing what Hitler did which led to his final downfall, - micro- managing the war all by himself.

Re wasting missiles, I was talking to someone earlier and saying I couldn’t think of a single - not a single - example of Russia using a missile to hit Ukrainian forces anywhere near the front lines.
This morning Ukraine hit a Russian military base in Melitopol for example with a precision HIMARS strike
'US President Joe Biden promised to provide Ukraine with advanced air defence systems after a wave of Russian strikes hit Ukrainian cities.'

I’m so saddened to see this happening , it puts into perspective how lucky we are here ,all the collecting and sending stuff to Ukraine must be dwindling now, so sad
Question Author
Ukraine already has the same NASAM air defence system that protects Washington but of course Ukraine is rather a bigger area (and Kyiv alone is much bigger)
Germany is finally - supposedly - delivering the IRIS-T.
Surovikin is an utter *** but I don’t thing he can repeat Aleppo
Question Author
“ all the collecting and sending stuff to Ukraine must be dwindling now, so sad”

Believe me it’s not.
In the immediate aftermath of yesterday $485,000 was crowdfunded by one group alone
I’m so pleased to hear this ich
We've seen commander's get killed, come and go. So what's so new about this fat slob of a bully? And if such a mastermind, why wasn't he bought in at the beginning. But really you don't have to be a mastermind to just keep hurling shells into civilian areas. The fact is Putin knows he's in one big mess and there's little left to command. Nevertheless, the big fat slob is just another BIG target for Ukraine. :0)
