I don't understand why it has not been announced officially - trying to organise an event for next year and don't want to clash with the coronation - people need to know well in advance to book venues and accommodation etc. Also confirmation whether it will be a Bank Holiday or not.

A story on Sky News app yesterday reckoned it wouldn’t be a bank holiday, but who knows?
Rumour has it that it will be held on the same date as the late Queen's coronation - June 2nd.

JRM says it should be! But if it is the Saturday will they then make the Monday a BH? Will they move the cup final? Or the Derby? Makes sense to have it on Friday the 2nd.
I suspect there's a protocol to be followed leaving a 'respectable' amount of time between the death of one monarch and the announcement of the date of the coronation of the next. I bet it's known by those in the know. It just hasn't been made public yet.
coronations are just religious ceremonies in which the church attempts to exert its authority over secular business. They're meaningless. Charles is already King, the rest is just PR.

I thought the protocol was waiting a few months before the coronation, not in announcing the date - and surely as we all know the Queen is dead and he is King it can't be disrespectful. What about all the foreign dignitaries that need to have arrangements made to attend?
Question Author
jno I agree but don't want to go to the bother of organising an event just to have to postpone it.
just make sure your guest lists don't overlap!

As its a dog show I think most would prefer to attend that!
It should be on a day that is already a Bank Holiday, dont need to clobber the self employed again by any more days off.
// I bet it's known by those in the know.//

It is known. The current Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk, said as much when he was up before The Beak for a driving disqualification. He tried to use the fact that he was organising the coronation to avoid being banned. He failed:

^ Doesn't he employ a driver?
It is the duty of the wealthy man to give employment to the artisan.
// I thought the protocol was waiting a few months before the coronation //

The Queen waited 16 months for hers.
Dear lord in heaven - how much is this going to cost us?? Lizzie's funeral cost an arm and a leg. Charlie boy looks older than his mother when she died so maybe we should hold off on the coronation. Let the slurs commence!!
Set your date then inform the Palace so its up to them to avoid a clash!

:-)
Rumour has it that Charles will be crowned King on Sat 6 May 2023, in the centre circle of Turf Moor during the half time break in our last home match of the season when we entertain Cardiff. It is to be a double 'do' with Wills' investiture as Prince of Wales.
Chas will be wearing his Burnley shirt but Wills will have to beat his dad in a pre-match penalty shoot-out in order to receive the honour of wearing his Villa shirt.
As i said, just a rumour.
i don't know if you've noticed but.... it's a monarchy.... i'm afraid the concerns of smallfolk booking venues and planning events are irrelevant. They'll do it whenever they want.
"why has the palace failed to consider anyone but itself" is a self answering question
Don’t worry, maggiebee. The tourist trade will make up for it.
Untitled, how can the palace possibly consider people’s personal arrangements? I mean, really?
