Personally I doubt this is a “false flag” attack,
because no one would believe them.
Simply another terroristic act of spite.
The other story they are promoting is the idea Ukraine a planning to set off a nuclear device in Mikolaiv as an excuse for NATO to enter the war

The other thing about flooding S Ukraine is they’d almost certainly kibosh Crimea’s water supply. The peninsula is supplied by a narrow canal that would almost certainly be wiped out

Needless to say there is no nuclear bomb.
Almost certainly the dam is mined.
However possibly with a view to making the bridge unusable for Ukrainian forces.

If they were able to actually destroy the dam they’d flood themselves as the left bank of the Dnipro, where they are retreating to, is lower than the right bank. So that’s a problem.
The tactic was used by the Red Army against the Germans in WWII but the consequences now would allegedly be less deadly. The Red Army in doing it actually murdered tens of thousands of the Ukrainians Stalin hadn’t previously starved to death in the 1930s

Doesn’t mean it has to be but it’s a possibility

Yes I think I agree khandro: of course the Russians claim Ukraine is planning to blow the dam. Which would be quite a feat even for Ukraine’s special forces. And a monstrous act of self harm.
As it would be to a lesser extent by Russia although we know their concern for human life, even their own, is small.
Meanwhile Russia continues its forced deportation of civilians under the pretence of humanitarianism.
Retreat from Kherson tho is a massive humiliation for them and they’ll go to some lengths to cover themselves.
Not in water though hopefully.

Don’t have time to read the entire James Meek piece now, but he’s right about the Dnipro as a barrier. This is what I’ve been saying.
Mind you Russian forces are again massing on the border N of Kyiv although the state of that army, as indeed the state of the entire occupying force, must be called in serious question.
He’s right to highlight the plight of Mikolaiv, the “forgotten” city of this war (unless you live there).
Situated where the Pivdennyi Buh river enters the Black Sea it heroically resisted and repelled Russian invaders in March who otherwise would have been on the road to Odessa.
But it’s been destroyed by constant shelling and missiles ever since.
