Can't help but think we'd be better served by people with integrity and intelligence. Not a Part-political point but Tony Blair and Michael Howard, William Hague and John Smith could out-perform these pygmies in an instant.

I concur. The Tories have actually got a few but they’re kept on a short leash and on the backbenches.

Charles Walker summed up his Party perfectly last night, especially the bit about the ministerial red boxes.

One of the few on the Tory benches whose been an MP for 17 years and never a minister, a decent asset to the HoC.
Christ knows they need a lot more.

Tony Blair and integrity in the same sentence? You jest surely?

Fatt: Agreed. Was very impressed by Walker's comments.
Alistair darling, Ed balls , David milliband one one side, Michael portillo and Jeremy hunt or Ken clarke on the other for balance would do for me. Plus sir keir of course.

Lankeela: You're right of course about Blair. But he wasn't incompetent. Just trying to say that our current crop of politicos are a pretty lacklustre lot.
The Tories in Opposition were terrible. Hague, Howerd, IDS then Cameron, all very second division.
But since 2010, the Labour side have been well below a descent standard for an Opposition.
The difference is that the 13 years of Labour rule, the Government were quite competent. And the last 12 years of Tory Government’s they have been totally incompetent.
22.28 I've got to agree with lankeela. That man knows what the word means but like so many others doesn't think it applies to him.
I can think of politicians from all parties who think like that.
Can you, hand on heart, argue that Cameron, May, Johnson and Truss have all had integrity?
I have never seen it.
The Tories went rogue a few years after Thatcher left office.
She wouldn’t have had the likes of Johnson, Dorries and Shapps within a 100 miles of a cabinet and they wouldn’t have been taking donations from Russian spivs either.
erm tony blair was not exactly big on integrity lol. Though i agree he was a more skilful politician than anyone in the tory leadership. He was also quite intolerant of scandalous behaviour in his underlings.
warmonger and liar, why would anyone accept Blair as a man of integrity.
//But since 2010, the Labour side have been well below a d͟e͟s͟c͟e͟n͟t͟ standard for an Opposition.//

I wouldn't say that, gromit. ;-)
Tony might be an adviser to the next Labour Government.*
*If such a thing became a reality.
Was Blair ever hauled before an investigative committee for lying to parliament? I don’t remembering him being booted out for taking this country to war on a lie.
no he wasn't, he has made millions in the last few years, how? apart from charging oodles to give speeches.
All I remember is tabloids changed headlines about him to read ‘Bliar’.
water off a ducks back Naomi
I just don’t recall that when he was leader evidence of lying to parliament carried a penalty of automatic dismissal from the job, emmie. It certainly didn’t in his case.
as far as i am concerned he was a ghastly man and should have been dragged to court for lying, and for taking us into an illegal war.
