Joe Lycett ( never heard of him before ) says he is going to burn 10k of his cash if David Beckham does not witthdraw from doing the advertising campaign for the Qutar government for the football world cup .
Should DB agree to this , even if he could ,or is JL promoting himself ?
The money will go to charity if Beckham does stand down, shredded if he won't. if Joe Lycett wants to stand up for gay rights why shouldn't he, up to Beckham what he does but I'm surprised he took the role with the Qatar world cup being as contentious as it is.
My view is the World Cup should never have gone there, but we are where we are. You might not agree with Beckham doing this, but I don't approve either of the blackmail.
Give the money regardless, shame Beckham if you wish, publicise the cause.
Everyone is a winner.
Shredding the money is a poor thing to threaten.
Much as I adore Joe Lycett I'll be disappointed if he destroys the money. Too many folk are really struggling for many to support him doing that.
Fans are asking him to donate the money when his point is made.
Knowing Joe though he may have something up his sleeve.
what a stoopid gesture - particularly when things are tight for so many.
What would be a better gesture than DB withdrawing would be for the England team refusing to play - IMO, that would put them up for team of the year in the BBC's sportsman of the year review.
Sadly, Beckham would probably find it more difficult to back out now, because of this, even if he wanted to.
Anybody who takes money off the Qataris has to accept that their personal brand is going to be dented. It's a bit like the LIV golfers, too ... it's doing nothing to help the reputation of those paying the money, and everything to tarnish the reputation of those taking it.
