He has three teenagers, two daughters and a son and he couldn't imagine treated any of them different because of their gender.

The taliban is an extremist, hardline regime that treats women disgracefully, it does not reflect the majority of Muslims.
Afghanistan was a very different country in the 1950s and 60s before the coup and was relatively westernised, women could have careers, drive, dress fashionably in mini skirts if they chose to.

the boys arent allowed to wear skirts and the girls can drink beer in a pub and smack glasses in each others faces
I was gonna say gender linguistics ( it is ever so easy is not often found on a man's llips) but this is gender sociology
so gurlz are treated differently to boys in our society BUT I agree the "no work rule" seems a bit harsh

'their interpretation of the ...... " - no change in their beliefs - but a change in reportage ( which we all know is a social construct).
