False Claims
I don't often venture in to 'News' but this is a disturbing case https:/
What motivated her to bash her face with a hammer that she bought and make up all these lies on social media? Is she an attention seeker, hooked on getting 'likes' or is there something more to it? Could she have been groomed by a 'far right' mob or does that only happen in Corrie?
I know she's not the first to make false claims of rape and she certainly won't be the last, but this is probably the most extreme instance. Did she report it to the police herself or did they get involved because of her social media posts?
I have no idea what the appropriate sentence would be.

in the good old days of "You will be believed"
now watered down to "You will be taken seriously"
and so long story short - the police came around and invited me to refute the story ( that they wd otherwise believe)

There is this thing called witness immunity
( if a witness gets it wrong -oops! - you cant sue)(*)
BUT if there is malice ( no "and so my lord it must be....." you have to prove it. This means she has to say "I only did it to get him into trouble". Difficult v diffcult) - then you can

(*) a case cant beget a case ( Judge judy) except in.... the case of expert witness testimony at the GMC. Meadows got it wrong, ( defence: so what?) and got struck off.

Mental problems are never an excuse for such behaviour, but they can be an explanation, which is not the same thing at all.
It would appear that this woman has serious psychiatric problems that need to be treated, and the fallout from her actions generated by those problems has seen innocent people imprisoned, and all manner of dreadful damage to an entire community.
It's a dreadful situation.
Mental problems are never an excuse for such behaviour, but they can be an explanation, which is not the same thing at all.
It would appear that this woman has serious psychiatric problems that need to be treated, and the fallout from her actions generated by those problems has seen innocent people imprisoned, and all manner of dreadful damage to an entire community.

If you mean that the punishment, if decided, would be more lenient because of her gender, I doubt that would be the case.

Highly unlikely that she does, or has any real grasp of the consequences of her behaviour - because people rarely do consider implications before they commit crimes, if they did, they wouldn't do it.

Well, bearing in mind that people who try to avoid speeing fines and points usually end up in prison for six months to a year, I imagine her sentence will be considerably greater:

I would suggest the offence lies at the very top end of seriousness. The underlying offence was a very serious one and there were serious consequences for innocent parties. If a judge sees it that way, the guidelines (which are currently only consultative) have a starting point of four years custody. I would not be surprised, in view of the wider damage caused in the community, to see a sentence in excess of that.
