One should not immediately believe anything anyone says in war, or often other times. The UK had a massive propaganda department during WW2, its part of the war.
However, some are more believable than others. For instance I dont believe a word any Russian says at the moment.

In case anyone takes that literally, he was not my friend, I wrote that he was a very unreliable source of information. And I am pleased he has gone.

Digressing slightly:
Since occupying Soledar Russians there have been repeatedly blasted by Ukrainian precision strikes and artillery leading to even higher daily casualty rates. Additionally if main objective of the effort at Soledar was the cutting of the Bakhmut highway. This effort failed. UKR forces maintain in control of it.
