...News is often dominated by politics etc but there are all sorts of subjects that are also news. So I hope I wont get too many disparaging comments about what I consider to be a significant news story.

// those guys are just amazingly skilful and courageous. // I spent some time in the IOM in 2013, working with the company that did most of the setting up of the course (marking kerbs, erecting course markers, putting foam covers on road signs, etc), and their project manager took me round the course in his van. I believe I’ve seen that machine: it used to be on display in a pub I went to
A model on from Barry Sheen's machine/s.
Barry was a hero of mine as a kid in the 70s. I used to have a Raleigh Europa pushbike and to see him ride on when he was on Superstars was a real thrill (same colours as the Suzuki as well!)
Actually, I may have miss remembered that (puzzled face emoji)

Barry was one of the few top racers that did the TT. Top racers today won't touch it, too dangerous, one mistake and you're likely dead. Guy Martin had a major crash and got lucky most don't .
Indeed. If you watch any 'in the seat' video of someone riding the rout, the riders have balls of steel.

and this is taking it easy, learning the course!
I welcome such items in News, so often they get buried under other categories which, although appropriate, tend to not get visited by many entertaining Abers.

I've done the TT course in a simulator, not me riding but you are in effect experiencing what it would be like if you were, mind blowing! I've been riding bikes most of my life but those guys are just amazingly skilful and courageous.
Whoever thought up this race in the first place wants / wanted their brains tested
My mum's old neighbour a lady now in her early 90s used to stay with her son on the Isle of man during racing season, her son was pretty well known as the only Rasta on the island. She loved the excitement.
Sorry, should have said I appreciate how much the IOM owes to the sport and the sport owes to the IOM, so any connections to its history should be maintained and developed.

I spent some time in the IOM in 2013, working with the company that did most of the setting up of the course (marking kerbs, erecting course markers, putting foam covers on road signs, etc), and their project manager took me round the course in his van. At normal road speeds, it took us just under an hour. notwithstanding the high kerbs, adverse cambers, drain covers, narrow sections with stone walls, slippery road markings, random spectators, the bikers do the same distance in just over 17 minutes. much respeck.
