Jesus wept - who agrees this is absurd?

And why the hell is the Mail referring to somebody with a penis who rapes women as 'her'?

In his most recent Netflix special, Ricky Gervais had a routine about this very scenario, which was hilarious because it was so absurd. Paraphrasing "He raped me", "you mean she raped you", "but he had a penis", "she had a penis you effing bigot". But clearly it wasn't that absurd after all!

I remember a similar case some months back. A man wore a woman's wig and clothing and was arrested for gang raping a poor german shepherd dog (gave me nightmares) and there was some debate about which prison to send it to. Can't understand why monsters like that have rights!
There may be genuine cases of gender dysmorphia but they are swamped by all the attention seeking opportunists who have found a way to con people like zebu and untitled. The TG mob don't worry as much as the TG fascists that insist a bloke still with his equipment that has raped actual women should be termed a "woman".

I wouldn't expect you to believe me untitled, but then I don't believe you genuinely consider this creature to be a her, but rather are referring to him as her because you feel it makes you look enlightened on AB. It doesn't.
'I don't believe you genuinely consider this creature to be a her'

He isn't.
Willy du Bruyn was born with both sets of sex organs, was raised as a girl but had the strength and build of a man.
I don't think I have referred to the person in the OP with feminine pronouns deskdiary... i tried to avoid doing it as it seemed like it would distract from the points i wanted to make

Apologies untitled.

It was zebu who was referring to him as her.
Had to stifle a few giggles when it was on the News last night, her/ his shocking pink tights clearly showed a little bulge :0)))
//“ Speaking personally, I couldn't give a tinker's cuss about people wanting to transition”//

//i don’t believe you.//

Why don’t you? I don’t think anywhere in this thread has dd shown any worries about people wanting to transition from one gender to another. I similarly have shown no such concern. Since gender is largely meaningless it’s an exercise that is somewhat irrelevant to anybody other than the person involved and perhaps some of their relatives and friends. I simply don’t subscribe to the view that such people should gain access to all the spaces and facilities of their chosen gender. Some things don’t matter; others most certainly do and it is those which concern me.

It applies to those moving in both directions – I don’t particularly welcome the idea of women who pretend to be men being present in some men-only spaces which I use. But I believe it is more important when it comes to protecting women-only spaces because it seems that more problems are caused by men pretending to be women than the other way around.

To help you understand why I hold that belief, according to the last full year’s data (published in November 2022) there were 230 transgender inmates in UK prisons. As an aside, this number as a percentage of the total prison population (c. 0.27%) accords quite reasonably with the percentage of transgender people said to be in the total population. Of these, 187 (81%) reported their legal gender as male. Of those, 97 (52%) were sex offenders. Forty-four had been convicted of rape and 14 of offences against under age children. In the general prison population less than 20% of inmates have been convicted of sex offences. So you have more than half of the transgender inmates, who are in fact men, guilty of serious sex offences (serious enough to end up in custody) and the prevalence of sex-offenders among these men who call themselves women is two and a half times greater than in the general prison population.

From that, I deduce that the prevalence of those likely to be sex offenders among men calling themselves women generally is probably (though not, of course, definitely) somewhat higher than it is among men who retain their original gender identity. So with that in mind, it is somewhat irresponsible to allow such men access to women only spaces.

However, that is only one of the reasons I object to the policy. Whether they are exposed to additional peril or not, incredible as it may seem many women (I would venture to say most, though without any evidence) simply don’t welcome the presence of men in certain women only spaces. They are entitled to expect these spaces to remain free of men and, however it is dressed up, a man who simply declares himself to be a woman is still a man.

It seems to me that you disbelieve people who have objections such as mine and dd’s simply on the basis that you cannot believe there is any logic to our opposition. We must therefore simply be bigots who object to the presence or even the very existence of people against whom their objections are aimed. And in that, certainly as far as I am concerned, you could not be more wrong.

It doesn’t matter, bobbi. He’s said he’s a woman and that’s all that counts.

all the prisons have nicknames - Fraggle Rock - F block for disturbed prisoners and so on

so... he should go tot he one called 'Animal Farm'

Am I the only one to notice this thread has.... lasted a long time?
TTT // you don't need medical qualification to see through these charlatans //

A public consultation about reform of the Gender Recognition Act ran from 3 July to 22 October 2018. In addition to the consultation, the Government Equalities Office met with around 140 organisations to hear their views. This included trans and LGBT organisations.

Page 37 of the link for more details.

One of the findings yielded the following:

The results from 960 respondents who had applied for a GRC.

60.4% successful
11.9% were refused
27.7% still awaiting the outcome.

Since 60.4% represents the thick end of 600, this is significantly more than the 1 in every 1,000 you have claimed.

TTT // 99.9% of the time they are attention seekers at best //

Best left to those learned professional bodies to carry out their assessments, wouldn't you say?

The issues around transgenderism are extremely complex.

To dismiss all transgenders as charlatans on the grounds of your dogmatic certainty, is as you might put it, at best, ill-informed.

pixie// Transgender males- are no more, and no less, likely to commit a crime //

You’re probably getting confused?

In the nomenclature of transgenderism, ‘transgender male’ means an individual whose biological sex was determined at birth as female.

Is this what you had meant to convey?

pixie// As far as "medical qualifications"- nobody needs any, to know that humans cannot change sex. //

If you’re referring to sex determined by a person’s chromosomes,
I agree with you.

On the other hand, in respect of brain sex and hormonal sex it is likely our opinions will clash.

// I don't indulge people in fantasy //

The message is loud and clear judge.

That is, since transgender people do not conform to social constructs they are deserving of contempt.

The way you have portrayed transgender people is no better than someone promoting exhibits in a Barnum freak show.

Shame on you.

Naomi// They're *lying to themselves. //

Transgender people in fear of persecution, unable to express and act in accordance with the gender they identify with, pretending to be someone they're not. Living day to day in mental torment afraid of standing out in the crowd, struggling to conform with the status quo, painfully aware they're not being true to themselves.

That without doubt is the biggest lie of all!

*Unqualified statements contributes nothing other than to stoke the flames of opprobrium.

Judgemental (pun intended)
Seems a bit strange.Nicola Sturgeon has now sent this"woman"to a mens prison.Surely if this"woman"is sent to a mens prison, this"woman"will be more at risk of getting raped, than if this"woman"was sent to a womens prison? So much for Sturgeons anti-transphobia law.Looks like she is using this transgender woman as a political tool(pun not intended). One minute Sturgeon is all for transgenders, next minute she is against them.Methinks Sturgeon is on the way out.
“ We must therefore simply be bigots who object to the presence or even the very existence of people against whom their objections are aimed. ”

yep that’s about the size of it.

earlier in the thread you said you would end your interaction with anyone who asked you to use their preferred pronouns… nothing to do with whether or not this hypothetical person was a sex offender or otherwise objectionable… that was it.

i am sure you consider this deeply principled but i hope for their sake that nobody close to you struggles with their gender identity and ends up turning to you for support because it’s fairly obvious they won’t get it.

so yeah… i do think you’re bigoted toward transgender people
//That is, since transgender people do not conform to social constructs they are deserving of contempt.//

I have shown no contempt for transgender people neither in this, nor any other thread on the topic and I don't warrant your shame (but I have broad shoulders so I can bear it). My contempt is reserved for those who campaign to have men who have declared themselves as women to be allowed access to spaces which are rightly the preserve of women only. Of course that may include some transgender people, but it is not poured on them because they are transgender.

//The way you have portrayed transgender people is no better than someone promoting exhibits in a Barnum freak show.//

I have only described them as they are: men pretending to be, or masquerading as, women. It's an unfortunate truth, but the truth it is. A man who declares himself to be a woman is, and will remain a man. If you interpret that as some sort of freakdom that's your privilege but I said nothing of the sort.

Just to be clear, I have no particular views on transgender people. We're all different. What I do have views on are the campaigns that are launched against anybody or any organisations that have views similar to mine. I do not want men encroaching on women-only spaces. In fact I don't want women encroaching on men only spaces (and I don't mean gentlemen's' clubs) but that is less of an issue.

It's unfortunate if transgender people are "in fear of persecution, unable to express and act in accordance etc..." as you suggest. Life's tough for some but the answer to that is not to trash the rights and reasonable expectations of half the population in order to cure the problems of about 2 in every thousand.
Zebu, none of that means they’re not lying to themselves. They are.
Men are not women and they never will be. That is a fact if life.
