for the coronation - what a load of tosh! Does anyone really believe that something made now is actually anything other than just a mixture of stuff put together by a few men in posh frocks?

Just stop oil.
I thought the same! Watching the old men waving a tea cloth over the oils, I could have done that after adding few drops of Orange oil.
Not seeing the problem here.
Someone had to do it.
Maybe they should have asked people on AB to volunteer :-)

Ich my query is that its not actually holy oil saved from the time of Jesus (even if you believe in all that) - its just various oils put in a container and as Sharon says had a teatowel waved over it. I find it hard to believe that so called intelligent people believe in all this nonsense.
I must say I worship my bottle of sunflower oil, especially if I can by it for less than £2. :o)
When they consecrate it they make it holy.
I mean, obviously if you’re not religious then it doesn’t mean anything but the whole ceremony is bound up in religion.
They could consecrate a bottle of olive oil from Sainsburys instead but there are probably limits. They could also pull a cracker and put a paper hat on his head instead …
They've never claimed it to be anything other than oil that's been consecrated in some sort of ceremony. It's just that this year it's gone vegan.

All nonsense of course.
Well, there's one religious ceremony which involves having the end of your willy lopped off. I know which I'd prefer.

It might be quite entertaining watching the Archbishop doing that to Charles in the Abbey.
I bet it would increase the TV audience, though.
It is all part of the rituals and traditions that make up the faith. Charles is head of the CofE.
As it does not effect non-believers in any way I don't see why they think it worth mentioning
Oh come on. This is a very special occasion. Tescos Finest just won’t do.

That oil sounds lovely actually.
It's only a small sideways step from blessing a font full of water to make it holy water or the wine and biscuits to change them to the blood and body of Christ for a Holy Communion service.
Ask Putin to send a bottle of his very best.
If you are a non believer why worry, millions of people find great satisfaction in their religion, why get het up about it if you are a non believer?
It doesn't matter to non-believers does it? It does to believers. King Charles is a believer and the whole ceremony has a deep religious significance. So deep that it held her late Maj. to her duty for the whole of her long life.
The 'men in posh frocks' are enacting a time-honoured religious ritual. If you don't believe - it's easy, don't believe and laugh. It's still a special oil, coming from the Mount of Olives etc..
But have a little grace to allow others their beliefs without mocking, please.
The coronation is expected to be a "cost-of-living" coronation, cut down to approximately half the length of the previous one in 1953 with approximately the number of "VIP" guests.

But it's still estimated to cost around £100m, and it is the government who is footing the bill.

Yet Charles became one of the richest people on the planet when he inherited his mother's wealth - on which he paid not one penny in inheritance tax.

And yet the sheeple will still waive their flags...
Going by his past behaviour I doubt very much if he is a true Christian. Pays lip service as many do.

"King Charles is a believer" - or has to be seen to be as it goes with the territory.
