It does not matter who said what or from what platform. The fact that too many people hold the same or similar opinion, means there will always be whinging opposition to whatever solution is proposed.

Of course it's true, untitled. What's to stop say, a gay man, from a country where his lifestyle presents a danger to him, buying a flight to Heathrow and once there following government advice by presenting himself to the border guards and claiming asylum? Nothing. It makes you wonder why all those boat people pay thousands of pounds for the crossing when, if they're genuine, a £50 ticket on Ryanair would do nicely.

Where do the traffickers get the boats (and all the life jackets) from? The boats are confiscated once the asylum-seekers are rescued but still more boats appear. Stop the supply of boats and you stop the crossings.

it's illegal for him to do that under uk law as he would need to obtain a visa under false pretenses... it is not possible to get a visa for the purpose of claiming asylum.

the route you describe is safe for those with access to it but it's not legal
