Bewick Report
4 Answers
People in Birmingham naturally ask: "If I go to Hospital, will they kill me?"
Prof Bewick was asked to compile a report in Dec 2022 on possible deficiencies in the service at United B Hospitals.
This he has done in double quick time! ( chop chop!)
The report is here

Like much in life, if one needs something one can only obtain that which is on offer. Unsure I wish to view a report on a hospital nowhere near me, but deficiencies can occur at any institution. It is up to management to create a culture where such issues will get spotted & reported quickly, and a solution found & implemented. If best practice was shared...

I don't know about Birmingham. I do know that I will never, ever go to A&E at Scarborough again unless I am unconscious and am carried in.
Completely horrible experience a few weeks ago. I now have shingles after all the stress.
Briefly OH, nearly 90, started running high temperatures. Days after this ended he was rambling, losing balance & falling (had to get neighbours to help me pick him up. GP told me to take him to A&E & sent me off with full print-out of history, her record of temp., BP, blood pressure and oxygen levels and blood samples. These were ignored.
We got to A&E at 4.30 p.m. At 4.00 a.m. I peeled off because I had to get home to see to dog, make arrangements. We had been sitting in freezing waiting-room all that time.
I exonerate all staff - they were upset and trying to keep him warm. Systems are sub-human.
So, haven't read about Birmingham, sorry, but our treatment was inhumane.
I'll be good and read link now. It's all been preying on my mind rather.

Manchester, Rob are you listening? 75 y o with temp 40'C - Rob ET said it was severe flu. Med Reg after 3 h ( total wait 6 h) said on the telephone to come in ( of course). So neighbour WALKED to the ambulance because Rob's helper (Missy) cdnt lift.
Result AF - oops atrial fibrillation.
oh are there any thinkers out there?
if ya call an ambulance too often, you get a frequent flier ticket ( no more ambulances) and a concerned citizen COULD apply under the FOI Act, how many frequent fliers are dead at one year....
BC +ve for Klebsiella - so all in all he was quite lucky

14,000 people died after catching Covid in hospital. My local is almost certainly in the top 10.

If best practice was shared everywhere these problems should be minimised.
Meanwhile the health service remains in need of a shake up in various subject areas.
