No one should be interpreting the appalling saga of Muslim grooming gangs - and moreover the abject disregard for the well-being of their young victims - as anything other than it is. A shameful indictment upon the authorities and upon the dishonest, kowtowing, sycophantic, weak-minded society we have become.

You raise a valid point there - it's an appalling dereliction of duty by those who should be responsible for the vulnerable girls.
However, there needs to be some debate on the data.
Prof Ella Cockbain from University College London was on The News Agents (excellent podcast by the way) and has expressed concerns over the inconsistency of the data being used (alluded to in the clip I posted). The data we have doesn't really add up in any way.
She goes further though. Sajid Javid, when he was Home Secretary, commissioned the Home Office to produce a piece of research on grooming gangs. It found that the majority of those convicted of grooming were white British (as you'd expect looking at demographics), but there was no evidence of over-representation of ethnic groups in grooming gangs.
This was the Home Office's own data.
This is a very long report but some of it makes for persuasive reading:

And here's the News Agents podcast on the same:

I think the overall thrust isn't that these crimes have been committed, but we should challenge the narrative that (as Suella Braverman has claimed) this is an issue related to Pakistani men "who hold cultural values totally at odds with British values"...and look at the evidence (data).

If you want to put up an argument or forcefully state your point of view, that's great for the site. But when you start making little digs at others in the News section, more often they will make digs at you and then the whole thing becomes a slanging match and the Ed steps in and starts removing posts or deleting threads. You've seen it happen before, haven't you?
I can tell you're passionate about this subject however if someone here offers a view on a subject best to go after the view, rather than the challenger.
Believe me - I'm not trying to be sanctimonious...I've seen how upset you get with other members of the News section and can see how to avoid it.

I don't.
I try my very best to remain on subject and if you ever see me attack someone directly you're free to call me on it.
And I'm not patronising you. If it comes across that way I'm sorry. I like it when someone who had opposing views forms a forensic argument (New Judge does this).
Also my argument hasn't exactly failed...it's just you who disagrees with me. That's hardly the definition of a failed argument is it?

I'm sure you do - but unfortunately there are some who just like mud-slinging rather than debating.
For them this section of the AnswerBank has become an area to score points. If you don't them oxygen then they will starve. All they want is attention and the last word.
And I'm not referring to you if that's what you're now thinking.

Also, I won't be trying to counsel you on your behaviour here. I'm not the Ed! It will be down to him / her to monitor contributors who violate Site Rules. Consider this unwanted advice!
