A child needs much more than money. I would say that the amount of money a parent has is the least important aspect of parenthood.

Years ago I would have said that it is selfish to have a baby in your fifties but back then many men were 'old' in body and mind by the time they reached retirement age.

Now men in their 50s and 60s are generally much fitter and more active, they certainly have more free time than my dad did but 79 is too old in my opinion. A child doesn't really get to know their parents as individuals until they are grown up themselves and I think this child may have the benefits of money and a very extended family but will lack a long relationship with a father.
Yes, I do know they having a child when you are young is no guarantee you will live long enough to see the child grow up.

and HE was er 62 I think when he er fathered the Royal Princess ( dirty botch!) and MIGHT have supplied the faulty gene.

Personally I think it is selfish, no thought for the child at all.

One of my grandfathers was old when he had my pa, not as old as Mr De Niro, but dies when my pa was 13 and he was 80. He was very well off so money was no issue but it definitely affected my father. It's not just the dying at that age you are not up to rushing round like you are when you are in your 20/30's as I am finding out as a Grandfather. And I am only 63!

it's fairly obvious that he won't be the one to raise the kid... i don't really see how that's a problem so long as he arranges for someone to do it
