My son is a landlord of two properties and certainly doesn't make a lot of money from the rental income. He made a big loss one year due to bad tenants who wrecked the house did a flit. He struggled for a few years to get back on an even keel.
He bought the houses cheaply and spent a lot of time and money bringing them up to standard. Both houses have good tenants who have been renting from him for a good few years now and he intends to keep them as long as possible but with the mortgage increases he is only just breaking even. He has offered to sell the houses to the tenants but they aren't in a position to.
Not all landlords are evil.

I can't speak for England but in NI there needs to be more protection against bad landlords who do not do maintenance but collect money every month

I was just stating what gulliver has put on here a couple of times. It is no more silly as you call it than when others put threads on and don't answer any questions that are put to them him included. By the way I am entitled to an opinion and also there is nothing in it which means there is no reason for it to be removed.

RH: "what part of the reforms do you disagree with Tora? " - well it's the headline really but it's the general forcing of landord's to have pets, kids etc, further tightening of the straight jacket. Tenants are protected by their contracts anyway. If a landlord needs the place then he should be able to take possession of his own possession without having to jump through a load of hoops. The current rental market is so heavily skewed in favour of tenants that they are all portrayed as victims and the Landlord are all portrayed as Rackman.
