If this carries on I think a lot of people will take the law into their own hands.

"One read 'Life over oil', while on another was the phrase 'I will not die quietly'." - Life over Oil? but we don't mind killing innocents by blocking the highway! Public patience is wearing awfully thin with these ***.
Precisely TTT.
The infant has yet to experience life. These JSO trash have seen life and still can’t do anything useful and constructive with it in the short time they have left.
Bugs on a bumper,

if I ran them down to save my child would I have a defence under the law of necessity?

The sad thing is that UK is the top climate change responder in the G7!
I'd probably do the same, TTT, but that woman never said her baby was sick or that she had to get the baby to hospital. 'My baby is in the car and we have to get to hospital'. She could have been going for her post natal check up or her own ingrowing toenail. We don't know.

But I'm just as fed up of JSO as everyone else.
The reason for her visit is irrelevant, barry. She should be free to go about her business without purposeful obstruction.
The mother might have been going anywhere with the wee one, not necessarily to a hospital.
Barry
The mother does not have to justify her journey to anyone yet especially to one who is unlawfully impeding her lawful progress
Sorry. Naomi crossed posts
I agree, naomi, as I said I'm just as fed up as everyone else.

If I were a woman of the right age I'd be carrying a cushion in the car ready to stick up my jumper to claim onset of labour if I was stopped by these idiots.

(1)If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding £50.
(2)A constable may arrest without warrant any person whom he sees committing an offence against this section.
( Legislation.gov.uk. Highways act 1980)

Why are the police ignoring this?
TCL,thank you.
It would appear that the Supreme court is bending the relevant law so that it becomes lawful to break the law.
We live in interesting times.
VULCAN, the penalty has changed and can include a gaol sentence and unlimited fine.

"If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 51 weeks or a fine or both."
TLC, yes, I understand that but it's pointless changing the penalty if the police are not making arrests, an option which the Supreme court has now given them.
//if the police are not making arrests, an option which the Supreme court has now given them.//

It must take the full year police recruit training programme to assimilate the new laws. I had thirteen weeks and the perfectly adequate Sec 121 of the Highways act remain with me now. Gawd help them if they had to switch from the larceny Act to the Theft Act and Malicious and Wilful Damage Act to Criminal Law act in midstream of their training. They will learn in good time how to utilise these laws but not too long I hope. Anarchy will rule. :-(
Selfish morons
It seems we have a lawless society, and those supposed to uphold citizen's rights being more interested in supporting the right to protest in whatever chosen form than in protecting the rights of the majority to go about their business unharassed.

It seems even the usual apologists for these Casserole are staying away from this thread.
