The country will never lock down again for Covid. And quite right to.
It was a mistake, and entirely unnecessary, to do so the first time.
There were a few voices on this board, including me, who said it was a mistake, it would ruin the economy and that paying people to sit on their backsides was wrong and that it would come back and bite us, the scenarios from the ‘experts’ were exaggerated and it was a total overreaction.
There was one poster who would routinely post no-context stats to show how bad it was, however when his no-context stats were challenged for the nonsense they were he’d do a flit.
I, and others, were routinely called “Covidiots” and “Granny Killers” amongst other things.
Well I, and others, have been proven correct.

Bob - I think (apologies if I have misunderstood) you’re making the mistake of assuming it would have been worse if we hadn’t locked down.
I don’t know whether it would have been worse or not. Neither do you.
I know we’re going over old ground, but it quickly became apparent in the vast vast majority of cases this was a killer of the old and vulnerable (although of the old and vulnerable who caught it more survived than died).
As this was quickly established, it was obvious to me we shouldn’t screw the economy and ruin a year of education for kids.
Protect the vulnerable, but everybody else go about their business.
There’ll be some people who will say things along the lines of “my healthy 25 year old mate died”, and whilst that would be sad, that is not enough to dick-around with people’s lives. 25 year olds die everyday.

lankeela - at one point we had a while bloody cupboard full because the school was sending them home with the kids. I'm not exaggerating in saying that at one one point we had over 40 in the cupboard, none of which were used and were eventually binned.
I have no idea how much a testing kit cost, but x that amount by the number of kids at my kid's school and it must have been 10s and 10s of thousands - money was being spunked-up like it was going out of fashion.
