If I were the Indian minister negotiating the trade deal with Badenoch, my starting position would be – you are desperate for a trade deal, therefore I want totally free access to the UK market for all our goods and services, and in return you will get nothing.

You can then spin this trade deal as another one of the great trade deals you’ve negotiated since Brexit.

If you were the Indian minister then the rest of the Indian government might be asking why those who suggest a trade deal always seem to break off after speaking to you, and why India fails to agree anything. No one is desperate for a trade deal, trade continues anyway, however they are a benefit to both, but not if unbalanced.

Well thankfully most Indian people are clever and think things through and, unlike you, wont bite their nose of to spite their face. All Indians I know are very financially savvy and would want a deal of some sorts rather than none.

Of course re-joining would be open to negotiation, but as one of the richer nations of the EU and therefore likely a net contributor, would help our position.

Poland agreed to adopt the euro joining in 2004, they have since showed no interest in doing so, and the EU don’t seem to mind.

Unfortunately re-joining is going to take many years; there is no chance whatsoever of the incompetent Tory government – or any UK government that says ‘let’s make Brexit work’ getting the EU to re-admit us.

Sadly it may not even happen in my lifetime, but hopefully some future generations will be able to enjoy what we have lost by leaving the EU.
