Liz Truss ..."Con Party" Who after serving only 49 days as a Con Pm. Has already claimed £23,310 from her £115,000 -a -year public fund to ex PMs. While ordinary families struggle to pay bills and put food on the table. While Liz Truss makes a profit from her own failure . Dis...Bloody... Gusting .
"This country needs to move away from the regulatory, Big State, high tax high spend, risk-averse mindset that prevails in all the major parties"
In other words, the Tory party needs to become a proper Tory party again.
maggiebee at 6.03. I agree, it does pale into insignificance, but I agree for a different reason. Mone wasn't the leader of a party. St Urgeon was. And even the most diehard SNP fans must accept the missing £600k, and the £100k campervan (which was going to be used for campaigning - yer, pull the other one) is at best iffy.
Of course she was a disaster and many on here including me never wanted her as PM and were cheering when she left.
But lets unpick this and put aside tribal loyalties and obsessions.
A few questions for you gulliver1.
1) Do you think that all the allowance of around £115000 should be stopped for all ex PMs or just for some. It seems execssive to me for all of them but those are the rules. Maybe Keir will change them in 2025.
2) Under the rules she and all other ex PMs is allowed to claim around £115000 pa or about £10000 a month. Agreed?
3)Do all ex pMs spend there allowance. Yes, Major does, Blair does, Brown does, Cameron does. May spent half of hers in 2021/22, the last year I found for full figures I've no figures for Johnson but I'm sure gulliver or someone has researched it and can provide a link.
4) Has she overspent? No- she's entitled to £10000 a month so to spend £23000 in 5 months is well within the allowance.
5) What does all this ex PM money get spent on. Hairdressers? Staff and offices? Travelling? Attending functions. Perhaps you can give a breakdown of what each spent the money on and tell us if Truss was any different
Now maybe the allowance should be scrapped or linked to days served in some way.... but its not so its all within the rules. So maybe have a go at May as well or even Brown who was only PM for 3 years .
Although ex-PMs are entitled to this £115k p.a. allowance, they are expected to spend it on semi-official duties, not on luxury Caribbean holidays and alike.
Questions have been asked over John Major’s spending, but as ever with the political elite, they are above reproach and can do as they please with our money.
Boris Johnson made no claim forr the allowance in 2022/23.

Exactly, dd, exactly. And that ain't gonna happen with the carpet salesman who is currently allegedly in charge. Despite his announcement today that he is "considering" rowing back on some of the ridiculous proposals to "combat climate change" he is seen as a safe pair of hands (i.e. someone who talks a good talk but will actually do as he is told).
a vote for labour is a vote for gobby rayner, the only hting that comes out of her mouth is more spending, and nothing about going carbon neutral or it's effect on the economy, let alone freezing to death to neuter us off fossil fuel heating, maybe we can have one of corbyns caridigans or diane abacus's math theories on spending, as long as it's not racist.
