They are the ones that should be shot or put down. We've had a variety of rescue dogs of all types over the last 50 years and none of them has shown aggression. Some of them have shown fear initially because of previous owners.
I'm not sure its mistreatment as for this type of dog it is natural to fight so if it is trained that way it will happilly fight.

What would you propose they do? Knee jerk laws are not the answer as they always have unintended consequences. We could insist dogs are on lead and muzzled when out but it would have to be for all dogs and of course that wouldnt stop the cases where the dog escapes or attacks someone in its own home.
Dont get me wrong, I want something done but it needs to be measured and proportional.
If it were my decision I would add the Bully XL to the dangerous dog list (once the decision has been made as to exactly what a Bully XL is) along with any dog that the result of crossbreeding any dog with a dog on that list.
This would mean that the dogs must be muzzled and kept on a lead in all public places, must not breed and must not be sold, swapped or gifted.
Of course this would do nothing to prevent the dog attacks on private property and there has been a few instances where the victims were babies and children.
I would also have mandatory tough sentences for the owners/keepers of these dogs that attack anyone, for any reason. Mandatory euthanasia of any dog on the list that attacks any person.
Tough penalties for anyone that imports a dog on the list, and euthanasia of the imported dog.
So responsible owners of well trained dogs will be able to keep their pets but within 10 years or so there should be no more dogs of these breeds in the UK.
