One life gone another ruined. What's the answer? We all carried knives when I was their age, I don't remember anyone getting stabbed.

And I still think decent penalties a) prevents the reoffending and b) it will over time be a deterrant to a fair few.
True it will never be 100% but if your looking at 5 years min for carrying and it is handed out many wont want to risk that.
Problem is it needs a Police Force and we dont have one.

I suppose you are picking on me again ymf. My husband was a mod he tells me. I mixed with mods, rockers, hippies etc. Our local town had a large immigrant population areas Of course there was some violence, but it doesn't compare to what is happening now.
As for your statement about guns........
You are so clever......... not.
//Ken - the problem with 'deterrent' sentences is, the mindset that carries and uses a knife is not the mindset that even thinks about, much less is deterred by, thoughts of the consequences of doing so.//
Which is exactly why tough sentences are required. The violent yet 'undeterrable' need to be kept out of circulation for as long as possible.
