Of course I feel differently now though I suspect the young children of today would also enjoy it. At that time I used to have an elephant ride every summer at the zoo.

My school(1954~1958),used to have an annual trip to Bertam Mill's Circus( in Olympia Halls,London) for Christmas.
It was divided into three sections:~
1.The circus itself,with quite a few wild animal acts.
2.The fairground,with many odd things( realy a freak show really) Siamese giraffe necked women.

A flea circus(real horse fleas)

and a bearded lady,she let you pull her beard to see it was real!
3,The menagarie.Where all the circus animals wer kept,when not performing(in trailers).
I made friends with a tiger,it turned out she had been hand reared,and was just as friendly as a domestic cat (through the bars)!
Todays Health & safety guys would have a fit.
