this month the guardian has revelaed that the king receives millions collected from bona vacantia funds in the duchy of lancaster... and that those funds have been used to generate profit for his majesty

what right does this filthy old parasite have to these inheritances?  why do we continue to tolerate this repulsive behaviour from royalty?

If you insist on having a royal family you are likely to find issues you aren't keen on regarding that. If unhappy, call for modernisation and a republic.

>>> "people might be able to make applications but surely such applications are contested by the crown?"

No.  Such an application would be made before the bona vacantia process came into effect.  The Crown wouldn't even be aware of the death.

Could the monies not go to the council where the deceased lived?  They're always short of funds.

Sandy, that way we ordinary people may benefit, can't have that when we have the grifters around .

not bothered in the slightest, far from it...the more it sticks in the throats of the lefties and anti monarchists the better...

As NJ said its peanuts in the scale of things...stop entertaining all the illegals (so called asylum seekers, refugees ) flooding in here, get rid of them  and im sure the hundreds of £millions wasted annually on them   will be a far greater amount...

^^^^^^ the royal family have been sponging off the public for hundreds and hundreds of years. Hardly a valid comparison .

Question Author

it isn't the amounts so much as the principle of the king getting dibs on a commoner's estate because they had no will... why should he?

Question Author

If only they were just "spongeing" anne... it seems more accurate to say "plundering"

Indeed, why should he ? But some people are happy and have no problem with the money going to these incredibly wealthy people .

/// ..stop entertaining all the illegals (so called asylum seekers, refugees ) flooding in here,  ///

Typical diversionary smokescreen from the usual xenophobes which has nothing to do with the OP, but they must bang their drum at every opportunity. Sad.

its a perfectly valid comparison, just because you cant deal with is not my problem..
and as you decided to bring up one of the lefts favourite stolen and distored words xenophobe, not wanting the country flooded with these spongers doesnt make one a xenophobe...but dont let that cloud you leftie narrative and thinking...

Why are some people so reluctant to make a Will?

That's the real issue

While writing a will you couldn't do other than think of your own mortality.

Some may not be able to face that.

This has been done to death now. If everyone made a will it wouldn't happen. Heir hunters would be out of a job, long lost relatives would get money from people they haven't bothered with for years and maybe some charities would benefit if the deceased had no relatives and noone to leave their money to.

Question Author

Ok but why should the king profit from it when people do not make a will? it doesn't happen outside of lancaster and cornwall

If the deceased doesn't care who gets their assets, why should we?

Xenophobe is another of those phobes regularly trotted out by the intolerant who pretend they're not.  There is such a word as Regiphobe and there's a lot of it about on this thread.

Question Author

firstly because lots of people die unexpectedly before they make a will and secondly because the king is being granted privileged access to estates that have nothing to do with him. it is parasitic behaviour.

at least the exchequer is accountable for how it spends the money. the king can just use it to increase his already enormous income.

Question Author

i have never heard of regiphobe but i quite like it. that's definitely a 'phobia' i can get on board with!!

Along with the others you embrace, untitled.  You obviously didn't read what I said at 13.26 - or perhaps you chose to ignore it?

Question Author

The Duchy are obviously being economical with the truth naomi seeing as their boss has been caught with his fingers in the till. i think regiphobia is a very healthy attitude. nobody should desire a king to rule over them - such a desire is craven and servile. it is boot-licking and beneath contempt.
