corby--- just to put the record straight . I merely meant that sometimes older people do make mistakes.

I read the change was introduced in 2020 but due to covid, it didn’t take effect until last year.

Were there any complaints then?

Andres, you haven't made a mistake.  This is our country.  There is only one  anthem that is likely to be played at any formal occasion.  Anyone with a modicum of sense knows that.

Well I went to a Bristol University graduation ceremony in 2015, and have no memory of the anthem being played then.

Everyone makes mistakes not just old folk and I cannot read minds but apparently, NAOMI can.

Voted by the university and students, non of our business , .

The 2015 ceremony is on YouTube and the anthem was played.

Corby, common sense - but you know that.  This is our country.

Reading my mind again?

No need, corby.  Your deliberately confrontational posts speak volumes.

Frankly, who cares?

I care about our culture and traditions.

19.26 BA!

^^^^^^ true .

what is it you want God to save Charles from, exactly?

Is the anthem played at other university graduation ceremonies?

Is it a tradition to have the National Anthem at Graduations, though? I can't remember it featuring at either of the two I've attended.

Graduation is to celebrate the achievements of the students, rather than the country. Besides, the British National Anthem is hardly relevant to the many international students who graduate, and I am also not sure that they'd necessarily welcome their own National Anthems being featured.

It's just weird to regard this as an attack on our "culture and traditions". It's neither. The National Anthem makes sense at sporting events -- I didn't get tired of hearing it at the 2012 Olympics! -- or at events where you're celebrating the national or community story. It doesn't at graduations. Stop getting angry over nothing.

I remember when it used to be played at the cinema, at the end of each film; wise viewers stampeded for the exits while the closing credits were rolling. High time Imax brought it back and respected the nation's tradition and culture once more; Netflix should be required to play the anthem at least once a day as well.

"Secretary of State for Education Gillian Keegan also criticised the university and said: 'This is ridiculous. Universities should stand up for our British values and stop giving in to woke ideology.'"

I wonder if she'll be insisting all English universities play the anthem at graduation ceremonies in future?

The national anthem was played at my graduation.  I've attended a few and the anthem has been played.
