Rishi Sunak has been slapped down by The official statistics watchdog over his claim that he and his Government had "Cleared" the asylum backlog.Sunak was accused of telling Barefaced lies.

Sunak said I would clear the Backlog of Asylum decisions by the end of 2023.. And that is exactly what I have done. But he hasn't

In fact the backlog of asylum decisions is 16 times higher than when the Cons came into power.

To be fair, he is a politician, so some dissembling is par for the course, and it didn't involve a high-end camper van being parked at a relatives.

The Tories have been accused of twisting the facts (not like them is it)   And are celebrating something they haven't achieved.

The Conservatives have not cleared  the Asylum backlog Thousands of vunerable people are still living in limbo as they wait for claims to be processed .Why the clear blue lies then?.

Wasn't the promise to clear a particilar backlog of older cases. Those have been cleared more or less. It's just that there's now another backlog... of newer cases.

I may be wrong but I understood he claim meant that those on the original backlog list had been either processed, or in the case of difficult decisions, moved to a separate list where they no longer officially counted as part of the backlog. New additions are considered not to count as part of the original backlog.

 

It's a usual practice. Compare that with pushing the unemployed into training, or encouraging all schooleavers to go to university no matter what course they take, so that they will no longer appear in the unemployment figures.
