I could have swiorn there have been a few warm Januaries in recent years, mild weather and no frost or snow. As Brainiac says, the weather was bitter earlier in the month and I would have thought that would drive the average down. However, I'm just going by London, rather than the whole country for a whole month.

It's not only us that like our winters to be a bit warmer - invasive species like it, too.  Could we have malaria, tsetse and other diseases in the UK from these alien insects that don't like the cold?

Garden pests and diseases don't get killed off either. But to avoid extreme cold it may be worth it. Have to wait & see.
