Great this low life scum were caught but this would not be happening if they had a site to take it to free. The problem is that councils charge the earth so fly tippers fly tip then the council has to spend a fortune cleaning it up. Surely it's cheaper to just let them dump it at the tip? I'm talking about these small vans etc not the bulk waste mob.

Not just councils.

By designating lanes as 'private', councils that are eager to take tax have no interest in doing the right thing when it comes to helping those they took from. Then it's individual citizens who have to clean up for them.

It individuals if tipped on private land but on the country lanes etc where most of it goes costs them a fortune.

I made the mistake once of taking down a timber play house from my back garden, loading about a third of it into the estate I had at the time and the rest in my retired FILs van. When we got to the dump they told me I couldn't dump the stuff from the van without paying £75 as it was commercial waste. They simply would not listen to my argument that it was the exact same waste I had in my car, so (and this is where it gets even more ridiculous) we had to drive off the site, park up just outside, decant the stuff from the van to the car, twice, and then drive it 50 yards back up to the dump. 

So I agree with TTT, the councils should have somewhere where small van loads can be dumped; the strong liklihood is the loads are from work undertaken for council tax payers, so I don't see the difference between a council tax payer taking stuff to the dump, or people they have employed taking the stuff to the dump.

But then why would we expect councils to do sensible things...

They wouldnt let my L200 on, even with obviously household waste.

The real underlying problem is land fill tax remove that and councils may be more open to taking it on. That and the ludicrous 'eco' rubbish like the tax on plasterboard.

Found out yesterday wood is now deemed as bad and consequently 47.50 + VAT a ton. (At the commercial station - my SIL has a carriers licence before anyone starts).

Most of these fly tippers are chancers that charge people to dispose of their rubbish.

I rarely have waste that needs to go the tip and would prefer to pay on a need to use basis than have my council tax hiked up, which would of course happen if the tips were free for all.

Most householders don't need to use the tip on a weekly or monthly basis.  People who don't have access to a car or van have to pay to have their rubbish taken away but if the tips were free they would paying twice - on their council tax and to get their rubbish taken to the tip.  It's not a case of 'I'm all right', it's proportionate.

yes barry but they are "paying twice" anyway as the council has huge costs in clearing up the fly tippers mess. It would be better to let them tip it and save 2 jobs.

I'd be interested in the figures. How much do they take from people paying to dump v how much it costs to clear the carp out of where it gets fly tipped.

If it's dumped on private land the landowner pays for the clear up, not the council.

In my council, the cost of clear up the fly tipped waste was £94k in 2022.  The income from the recycling centres in 2023 (can't find the figures for 2022) was £106k but the costs of running the recyling centres around £1m

Farmers get huge amounts dumped on their fields at an average cost of around £1000

I had a similar experience a few years ago as Deskdiary. I was emptying out my deceased mother's flat with help from my son.I had a landrover and trailer and managed to put all the furniture to be dumped on and in the vehicles. The jobsworth at the council re-cycling tip would not let the trailer in. I had to park the trailer up and unload and load the trailer and landrover and drive back into the tip a few times. The same council,back in the eighties, used to deliver several skips to our streets twice a year . The system was abused by itinerants and it stopped.

Top of my street is a dead end and uninhabited - the last block of houses ends about 150 yards loer down - and is regularly used by the fly-tippers. Of course the council always send someone up to clear the debris, but it's never long before another heap is dumped.

One time there was even a 2-berth caravan there but because it was on grassland, not on the street, the council wouldn't move it. In the end, the young scrotes of the area did their job for them by firing it!

Saturday morning a posse of members of the Labour Party were doing door to door, asking if there were any specific problems in the area. I told one of them all about the incessant fly-tipping and he asked how many times i had reported it. My answer was, "Never. It shouldn't need reporting given the number of times the council send someone to clear it. They are obviously aware of the problem."

He said he'd look into it🙄. A few minutes later, i let my dog in the backyard only to find someone had dumped a quite large fridge/freezer right outside my house on the back street.

Fridges are yet another 'eco' tax.  Thats why they are dumped.

Filled in an online form to enable access to the local tip with a trailer...was sent an entry code. Upon arrival at said tip was told..'you cant come in here with that mate..its got 4 wheels and we only let 2 wheeled trailers in'
